we have no lawn, and we like it! woods & some open space here and there, and many critters:
deer, turtles, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, wood rats, flying squirrels, bats, lizards, snakes, armadillos, many birds of all descriptions, moths, butterflies, dragonflies & other insects.

i feel you. we have a fan in the window & the white noise helps, but dawn comes around TOO early, and there is a phoebe who screams her name starting just before daylight, which is when i go to pee. almost impossible to go back to sleep then, even if i've kept my eyes closed to go to the bathroom.
