If you havenāt already checked it out: Ujamaa Community Book Store (NNW) has a pretty good selection, and some awesome community programming.
Also: Indy Book Crawlās coming up!

Amplification, letās go! Keep the momentum.
(Also, separately: these are some of the best protest signs Iāve seen in a long time. š)

[deep pull off a Djarum Black outside the goth club, one heel kicked up on the aged red brick wall.] Pepperidge farm remembers.

I feel like theyāre right in calling it out, but the reasoning is off: BHOtR has been/is being co-opted and sanitized by white nationalist movements.
Recontextualizing the song disrupts its power & historical record as a song of protest, abolition, and action. Appropriationās a strategy.

I like trains... though there are issues there, too. Roometteās the way to go, if you can treat yourself. Good privacy, good writing/relax space. Great dining cart.
ā¦ I took a typer, to absolutely no oneās surprise.

Did I say 3mins for todayās prompt? Yes. Enough to get started, enough to build on.
Write more, and I give you arbitrary internet Bonus points.
Pep talk time: you are absolutely worth the three minutes it takes to get it down.
ā¦ also, canāt edit writing without writing to edit, so. š¤·

Itās kind of weird that planning ahead might be better done through backwards planning.
Letās be real, though: things are overwhelming. This prompt separates (need vs want), then prioritizes (goals/urgency) to focus through the hardships.
Itās easier to keep going if you know where to, and how.

Some of it absolutely is people being silent; I wonder (perhaps too hopefully) if theyāre examining their own complicity in social problems.
Also: media coverage of those protests have drastically decreased. The groups themselves havenāt necessarily stoppedā but modes of visibility have to shift.

This is like the privatization of Eastern Europe in the 90s. Weāve seen this play out before.

Things to look out for in this prompt:
ā¢Audience (size, tone, ages)
ā¢Formality
ā¢Abstract vs Concrete language
ā¢Pacing: where do you want the energy to gather?
ā¢Call to action/Send off
HARD MODE: for your draft, you are only allowed to draw a single line through your mistakes. Keep emā¦ youāll see.

This #prompt came from an opportunity after a 2022 IN Senate special session kicked off with a wildly exclusionary Christian prayer.
Thereās need for interfaith prayer to set a tone: laws & justice are for all.
Senators invited me to write this Opening prayer, delivered in Senate 3Aug22.

Still figuring out the best format for the prompt & springboard context materialā I try to give prompts that merge writing with daily life.
Thanks for letting me know that it helps to have an example to work from.
I donāt want people to feel bound to āem. Writingās about knowing your options.
