Interested in lots of -ologies. I am happiest when I’m in nature. Disappearing into the forest is my ideal vacation. When I’m home I’m usually in the garden.

Porcupine tomato grows so leggy regardless of how much pruning I do. It’s such an oddball but I love it. #gardening

Found a male and a female snakefly in my yard today. I've never seen them before so it was pretty cool to get both in one day. #macrophotography #insects

This should definitely not be growing in S. CA but I couldn’t just give up. I brought it all the way across the country in a move. It spends Winter in the fridge crisper drawer. #garden #aroid

Echinocereus knippelianus are very cute even when not in flower. Their spines are very soft and flexible and feel like the bristles of a nylon brush. #cacti #succulents #terracottapots

Dire wolves were not close relatives of gray wolves. They last shared a common ancestor more than 5 million years ago. What Colossal has done is make something new and slapped a dire wolf sticker on it, as if an organism equals a hypothetical genome.

I was very excited to see this flash of purple amongst the mostly yellow wildflowers in my yard. #nativeplants #gardening

Desert Bells, Phacelia campanularia, blooming in my yard. #garden #nativeplants

Monkey flowers making an appearance. #gardening #nativeplants

Saw this lovely Banksia blooming in the botanic garden. Someday I’ll have one in my garden.

Such a good book! Go buy it or get it from your local library right now. This is up there with Otherlands by Thomas Halliday, both so well written I felt like I was right there watching it all happen.

Found this guy on my plant bench in the yard. My apartment complex was eerily devoid of life so seeing even the few inverts and birds here is really nice. Once the native garden is up and running hopefully there will be more.

My recently discovered super power: the ability to determine filming locations based on the plants in the shot.

This is Macrocillix maia & he's a moth who mimics bird poo. But he's taken it to the next level, he's also mimicking flies feeding on the bird poo, right down to the shimmer of their wings! I have wanted to see one for so long, but never thought I would! In Trus Madi entomology camp in Borneo. 1/2

I was a little concerned the backyard wouldn’t get enough sun for the cacti but I think they’ll be ok come May. #cacti #succulents

My new garden needs lots of work before I can do much. To give me and the pollinators something to look at in the meantime I planted a bunch of native seeds. This one is Cirsium occidentale, a native thistle. I’m hoping more of them pop up. #nativeplants #gardening #california

February lasted approximately 25 years. I don’t have high hopes for March. But my Veltheimia bracteata is flowering at least. Supposed to be pink but clearly it had other ideas.

Great Eastern Brood “X” 17 Year Cicada, 2021. Offspring to reemerge 2038. If this phenomenon doesn’t blow your mind you I’m not sure what will. Maryland, U.S.A. #broodxcicadas #17yearcicada #maryland #hemiptera

When I’m stressed I buy plants and seeds. This Adansonia za is the first to germinate out of the 24 seeds I planted. There are two more 1020 trays full of pots. I’ve been very stressed.

Phrases I never thought I’d say: “Wow. That’s a lot of baobabs.”

I’ve fallen behind on all of my hobbies due to… everything. But I need to get back into embroidery. @a-warm-garlic-yurt.bsky.social is a phenomenal artist and gave me lots of inspiration.

Laphria sp. Robberfly hanging out on a manzanita leaf on a summer evening. Not often I get to photograph these as they are quite flighty! #flyfriday #Asilidae #Diptera #Robberfly

I remember spotting these from quite a distance away and being so excited to finally see them in person. #wildflowers #botanicalphotography #flowers

Realizing that when people ask a question about a niche topic I am passionate about, they perhaps aren’t as curious as they once thought they may be.

Really could use some forest time right about now. #birds

Every single day I wake up to hear about some other dystopian nightmare. I can’t believe this is what life is now. Enjoy this Sphodros abboti Purseweb spider which is much less scary. #macrophotography #spider
