There are still tickets left for my talk on Women of the Roman Arena at Dorset Museum, I hope to see you there! www.dorsetmuseum.org/whats-on/wom...

Hey, people who study Ancient Greek religion; just a brief reminder that the NPAGR collaborative working group exists and we would love to have new members! #ClassicsBluesky

Books designed to be read only by human eyes are different from books designed to be read by machines, which is why Google will tell you that the phrase “shake my booty” can be found in an 1863 English translation of Don Quixote.

What in the absolute fuck is going on at the University of Cincinnati? For the record, trans men are just as biological as any other sort of man. They aren't made of metal or something.

This. Though beware of calling his patsies 'children': white men are always let off from their crimes on the grounds that they were 'just kids' when they are a decade older than black children jailed for life as 'functional adults'.

In today’s new #PeoplingBlog, Mohamed Kenawi discusses the work of the Endangered Archaeology of the Middle East and North Africa (EAMENA) Project and the important work they are carrying out documenting the endangered heritage of the region: peoplingthepast.com/2025/02/21/b...

The problem with AI as a “replacement” for historians is that it makes up the past according to the biases that its creators are comfortable with. It is not research but simply an entrenchment of old stereotypes. It actually, in the long run, stuns progress and perpetuates disproved narratives.

Happy Publication Day to me! 🎉😱🥹🧿 Between Two Rivers: Ancient Mesopotamia and the Birth of History is officially out! It’s a history of the region through objects found in an ancient museum in Princess Ennigaldi-Nanna’s palace, and I hope you all like it 💛 lnk.to/BetweenTwoRi...

We launched the Society for the Study of the Past yesterday at our Palestine event - a response to the fact that our disciplinary associations have failed us. It’s already looking like the only club I want to be in… More coming soon, but for now check it out here: societyforthestudyofthepast.com

This was really wonderful to watch live, I recommend catching up if you missed it.

Poor casting choice, they really should have hired a nobody to play Odysseus.

We are so excited to reveal the cover for “Ancient Pasts for Modern Audiences: Public Scholarship and the Mediterranean World” designed by the amazing @flaroh.bsky.social! 🤩 Pre-orders begin Feb 7th and the volume will be GOLD open access! Find out more here: www.routledge.com/Ancient-Past...

I only ask two things: 1. Do books 9-12 in claymation to suggest strongly that Odysseus might have made up the whole story. 2. Include at least twenty minutes of awkward silence at the end as he tries to explain how he spent 8 years of his absence.

I am once again asking why it seems impossible for big budget films to acquire accurate ancient clothing/armor information. It's half a day of research/googling. Maybe a full day if you want to get *everyone* outfitted properly. Then you have a nice chat w/ wardrobe and everyone is happy.

This is the only modern Odysseus I’m interested in. (The vet dog in the Naxos Chora)

This new Nolan Odyssey is going to mean great things for my career (👀) but I refuse to fake optimism now that we know for certain that Matt Damon is playing Odysseus. Like, I still can’t fathom that this casting isn’t a parody 🙃

Shall we play a game, and perhaps one that will be less kind than is necessary? Shall we guess which translation Nolan has read/is working off of or inspired by? I’d love to say the Wilson but I’m thinking he’s more of a Fagles or Lattimore guy. We’re sticking with white dudes all around for sure.
