Bravo. Perhaps the perfect way of proving my point 😂

Obviously you’re right about this BUT I remain steadfast in pronouncing that Matt Damon in every way remains an anachronistic monstrosity of casting.

YES. And women in a similar position would never be called children, maybe “girls” and that has its own terrible connotation.

But also, 1. Is perfection and possibly the only thing Nolan could do that could make Damon tolerable.

Might I add, 3. You don’t get to make the Odyssey without addressing the fact that Odysseus murders a swath of innocent women/victims.

An actor friend of mine sent me the Damon photo along with the idea that surely Nolan would’ve hired someone for accuracy! My first reaction was an indistinct CRINGE at that helmet. I don’t know enough but I know it’s bad 😂

Wow… I did see she was cast but hadn’t heard that. Honestly though I’d take that casting over Matt Damon if given the chance 🥴 It’s really just so so so disappointing. I think Nolan could have done something cool if he hadn’t cast all his besties instead of actors who actually suit the setting!

Just some vague Mediterranean vibes, as a treat

NOBODY will be able to convince me that Damon will be even a half decent Odysseus … I wanted that to be a Polyphemus joke but even that is difficult with Matt Damon involved

Yeah it’s absolutely giving 2004, with this casting it might as well have followed in Troy’s footsteps

“I dunno I guess the ancient Greeks sounded like an American vaguely attempting a poor and regionally unspecific British accent cause why wouldn’t they?”
comment in response to post
Imagine if they announced the casting of just one single Greek person! I feel like I’m living on another planet, like did no one think it might be cool to have even a handful of regionally appropriate actors?

I’m expecting an “accent” like that of Achilles in Troy only with that Boston twang 🥴

How many in the cast will read the epic and which translations will they read? Will Nolan have read more than one, I’d like to believe so but I have little faith in privileged white men so who knows!

IMO Circe shouldn’t be played by anyone save a woman from the Mediterranean, her character is just so tied to that world. Maybe I’m biased (I am) but I would’ve hated Gaga just as much 😂

I know I’ve barely been on this app and yet here I am to rant but honestly, it’s hard enough to stomach an A list Hollywood Odyssey right now, let alone one that’s cast one of the most white American men in Hollywood.

You know what could be cool, and appears to be an innovative idea? Cast some Mediterranean people for the movie version of the most famous Mediterranean-spanning epic? Idk maybe that’s wild
