Hi, Professor Woodruff! You taught me in 2007 for my comparative politics MSc program. Totally wild to find you here. Thanks for the education!

Students left the area by engineering building, police left as well. Students are now leading a chant outside Luskin, where Regents are meeting in closed door session until 12.30pm. Chants are over and now organizers are handing out water to protesters.

There's about 50 feet between some three dozen UC police officers and 30 or so protesters (there were 50 to 100 before police came).

UC police line entered engineering building to access courtyard where protesters were present. All protesters left by the time I ran up. Police then made their way down other stairs where students protested.

Here is a message UC comms just sent out to UC community about the hiring freeze and other efforts to manage campus budgets, including "workforce management plans that address any potential shortfalls." ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/employee-new...

The workers filed out just as a UCPD lieutenant declared an unlawful assembly. For the past year, it's normally been students shutting down the meeting and triggering an unlawful assembly. Anyway, we'll now reconvene the meeting for a few minutes and then closed session for a few hours.

More like ~1:09. The session is still live so YouTube won't let me link to the exact point until it's on-demand.

Not everyone present is on board with the rally aims. Two individuals rattled the metal barricades put up by UCLA staff to limit accessing the UC Regents meeting space. One shouted that there is more of the protesters than of UC staff and to shut down the meeting. The rest of crowd didn't join them.

One speaker details findings from a report a group of graduate students conducted. Report says UC invested in a firm that invests in the company where a regent is a senior official. Report said that it identified $18.8B of UC's $180B investments in firms tied to weapons manufacturers. Report link:

"Free, free Palestine" "From the River to the sea, Palestine will be free" and "Divest from genocide" are among the chants. One sign reads, "Jews for a free Palestine."
