I appreciate this response from Ed Yong on why he requests that people mask at his events. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...

In a small trial, nearly half of pancreatic cancer patients who received an mRNA vaccine had no signs of relapse after three years. Dr. Vinod Balachandran from @mskcancercenter.bsky.social joins us to discuss the results and what they could mean for cancer treatment.

Let’s be honest. We really needed this. #4Nations #CanadaWins

This is why I don't vote in the advanced polls. Your chosen candidate might do something stupid and drop out, and we don't have ranked ballots, so bye-bye vote. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

This has been my #mood today.

There's absolutely a pecking order at my feeders (generally biggest to smallest) so I was surprised to find this capture on my Birdfy today with 4 species dining together! The Dark-eyed Junco is usually the bossy one.

I had to snowshoe out to fill the feeders this afternoon, but the birds sure appreciated it. We had no less than 10 Northern Cardinals, along with 14 other species, enjoying the suet, seed & but buffet.

“Booing is your patriotic duty right now. It’s not very Canadian, and that’s the point. We’ve let this whole polite northerner shtick exist for too long…You know what rude people get? Service. They squeak, but they also get the oil.” #TeamCanada www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/artic...

"An Alberta wildlife photographer and conservationist is sharing on social media what he believes to be the site where a mother cougar was hunted and killed, orphaning two kittens, in hopes of garnering attention to recent changes to hunting regulation" #ableg #abpoli www.ctvnews.ca/calgary/arti...

A thread of #ConservationJobs (and career resources) in conservation-related science, policy, practice, communication, etc. I'll add to it over time. Focus will be mostly in Canada, with occasional posts for other parts of the world. Share job ads with me and I'll link here. 🌎🧪

Today we wrapped up our 9th day of aerial transect surveys in the Swan & Spirit caribou ranges in northwestern Ontario. The next shift is arriving on the weekend to continue with demographic surveys. Hopefully they have warmer weather than the -38°C we started with this morning!

If you’re on TikTok you’ll know that @jannarden.bsky.social is trending in a very Canadian way as users are using her song to accompany videos of the disposal of non-Canadian products. “Thrown out, with all the rusted, tangled, dented god damned miseries” This one is my favourite.

A new set of Songbirding episodes is ready to go, starting next week. Patreon subscribers at the Early Bird and above tier have access right now to the first. 🪶 Here's a 5 minute teaser for next week's episode. #birdsong #birding #FieldRecording #birds www.patreon.com/posts/songbi...

Great to see this show of unity and leadership from our former Prime Ministers. Canada is so much bigger than our politics.

Here’s a quick video of the Boreal Owl I was able to photograph this past weekend. I figure we could use a few more owls on the timeline! #wildlife #birds #owls

Interesting read! “By enabling workers and businesses to repair rather than replace, Canada can maximize the value of existing goods, reduce dependence on volatile global supply chains and make the country more self-sufficient, all without added government spending.”

Whenever you hear someone sneer about scientific research that seems useless to them — “they’re studying the spit of lizards?!” — remind them that’s exactly how we got Ozempic. globalnews.ca/news/9793403...

Ugh my parents are in the Dominican 😣

I feel like Canadians need this right now.

Finally got out to spot a few Caribou today! We definitely saw more signs than actual sightings. This group of 27 was the biggest of the day, with others ranging from 2-10 individuals. 🌎 #caribou #conservation #speciesatrisk
