It’s easy to be cynical about public opinion, but scholars of authoritarianism are pretty clear that there’s a serious difference in what an autocrat polling at 80% and what one polling at 40% can do. Not obeying in advance includes not surrendering to specious narratives of omnipotence.

DOJ: Court has no jurisdiction to release Ozturk, because custody is inherent part of removal proceedings. No discretion. She can seek relief before immigration court. Judge: Velasco Lopez says the court can exercise habeas jurisdiction during removal proceedings.

… they are in the same spots. The investments were made/ hard looks taken, but servers and cloud architecture is just not robust… not yet, at least. We’ve been on a 2-4 “years away” cycle since 2017, IIRC. COBOL has lost favor because of what does not use it, but its simplicity is its strength.

That is probably the case. Without too many details - my company is NO 1/2 in everything transaction related in the developed world. There have been scores of initiatives and consultants since 2014 (or so) trying to modernize our systems (and based on my peers at the other #1/2/3), ….

Here is my perspective from ~25 yrs in the industry (use it everyday)… COBOL just works. Ask the big players in the world who need scalability, reliability, and the engine to run unspeakable volumes in SLA-meeting times… nothing else works. This is simply to condition us to broken systems.
