i think what i like about krosan beast is how you see the art and mana cost and ability as you glance at the card, +7/+7 stands out to the eye, but as you go down the card you see "squirrel beast" and are like "huh?" and then you read the flavor text and stuff lmao

it's fantasy. you can do anything. you see a weird little worm make a cocoon and it comes out as a fucked up thing with wings. what about squirrels makes it so unreasonable to imagine magic ones growing into earthshaking behemoth like imago forms hmm

Skull Eater WBGG
Creature - Squirrel Nightmare
Haste, Double Strike, Deathtouch, Indestructible
When Skull Eater is dealt damage, create a 1/1 green Squirrel token.
*Jachol Cave has been raided by adventurers so many times that it would be easy to believe it harmless, and then, to die.*

honestly i like the idea that adramalech was given the cognomen "the wroth" specifically because it's a word he historically uses more often than other people. cuz official nicknames like that do just manifest in the real world from various places. they're so strange

i think the specific trick is that the snes final fantasies invent a battle handler that isn't just enemies executing "attacks" which means that they can trigger unexpected mid-battle events with crazy vibes. as an example, skull eaters just do this sometimes

chrono trigger kind of exemplifies the beginning of "directly explaining the boss's mechanic in a popup message" getting systematized, but ffv is in that spot where they were doing weird gimmicks for enemies but not like explaining it much yet

i like how it takes an ability that is very core red game mechanic wise, and nowadays is almost always like some sort of powerful fire or seismic threat that makes people unable to stop you, and gives it a totally different rarer vibe based on red's emotions theme lol
