Schoenberg's archives in Los Angeles are gone. 💔

More than 400 aircraft were stranded in Russia after it invaded Ukraine? Never returned to owners. Leased out by Ireland's Aercap and other aircraft lessors and now subject of mega insurance trial in Dublin. What happened the planes? I went to court www.theguardian.com/business/202...?

It's worth trying to conceptualise a moral rule that would disallow US expansionism into Greenland/Canada etc - which is bad and outrageous - and yet allow allied western intervention basically anywhere without UN support in violation of the UN charter - which is always justified regardless.

Objectively just very funny. 10/10 stuff.

JANUARY 2024: Ian Hislop annihilating former Conservative Party chair Jake Berry over the govt's newly found fervour for righting the wrongs against sub-postmasters in the Horizon scandal. 4m views in 48hrs. ~AA #BfBviralvid

Great piece by @sammygecsoyler.bsky.social using council invoices data in London and Birmingham. How councils spent millions on companies that take homeless families and move them elsewhere www.theguardian.com/society/2024...

Still my favourite thing that's ever happened in British politics

FEBRUARY 2024: Rishi Sunak cracking anti-trans jokes at PMQs, to the delight of his colleagues, while the mother of brutally murdered teenager Brianna Ghey watches on. An astounding 1.4m views in the space of two hours. ~AA #BfBviralvid

It's the weekend, baby

A rare actual good news story: bees – both honey bees and wild bees – seem to be doing better in the UK. Bee-friendly planting, less pesticide use and an uptick in beekeeping are all having results 🐝 🎉 inews.co.uk/inews-lifest...

A room of her own ~ artist Gwen John paints a corner of her attic room in her modest apartment during a stay in Paris 1907/09, a quiet reminder to “open our eyes to the beauty of all that we have already seen but not yet properly noticed” affirmpress.com.au/browse/book/...

spent a day making a custom (if slightly broken) json-> html converter for my cohost archive, which will now live in perpetuity here, on my website; everest-pipkin.com#archives/coh...

Riots are a form of communication and never just say one thing. These ones were particularly easy to pigeonhole given their racist nature and the attempted burning of asylum seeker housing. But middle class journalists can never see the writing on the wall.

Do you see something very unusual in this 16C Adoration scene? The angel beside the Madonna is a very early, tender portrayal of Down’s syndrome, as is the shepherd standing at back. Maybe the artist (a follower of Jan Joest) knew a child with the condition? www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles...

Reminds me this happened the night the Shard opened

At time of the 2013 vote on intervention in Syria the UN had not triggered Chapter VII - i.e. use of force in Syria was illegal under international law. Though govt said at the time it would hold a further vote the Attorney General advice was that UN was not needed for intervention.

A great and challenging and personal review of my local city museum (BMAG). Craft's worth and its connection to family histories. jelejloci.substack.com/p/maker-unkn...

Each year my wonderful pal Rachel arranges Christmas gifts for Ireland's unhoused children. As of last week, there are 14,996 ppl in emergency accommodation in Ireland, inc. 3,448 children. It's a tiny thing to bring joy to them. If you can at all, please consider donating. www.merrylilsanta.ie
