When the US Federal Emergency Management Agency removed a map of future climate hazards from its website, researchers built their own version.

As surely as if bombs are being dropped on our cities, we are trashing our economy by trashing science: "Estimates of the value of weather and climate information to the U.S. economy exceed $100 billion annually, roughly 10x the investment made by U.S. taxpayers." www.ametsoc.org/ams/about-am...

One of the people fired from NOAA today is the director of the Ocean Acidification Program. That program also leads the U.S. government's effort on marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR). The destruction of American science is incomprehensible.

Hello—I am looking for first person essays by scientists and doctors that are relevant to the news to run in Slate. Pitches and submissions: [email protected]

𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐲 | Defense against embers takes center stage in this story on the simple acts homeowners can take to make a 𝐛𝐢𝐠 difference in protecting their homes against wildfire. Spoiler Alert! It starts with Zone 0. www.usatoday.com/story/news/n... #DefensibleSpace #Zone0 #HomeHardening

In its simplest terms, the apparent demise of #USAID is the result of the world's richest man ending a program that helps millions of poor people. You don't need a Ph.D. in moral theology to see why this is an evil. You can just read Jesus's parables on the rich and the poor.

Congressional delegation outside USAID now: “We are here to shed a light on a crime unfolding before our eyes.”

This is being broadcast on YouTube here:

SCOOP: John Voorhees, USAID’s director of security, has been placed on administrative leave after refusing to allow officials from the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, access to the agency’s sensitive compartmented information facility. ⤵️ www.devex.com/news/scoop-u...

This is Drake. He is very happy to see you. Saw you about five minutes ago, but is thrilled it's happening again. 12/10

This is Lucy. She likes to bring her human random objects every time they take a bath. 13/10 a thoughtful queen

Register now for a noon TODAY webinar with state leaders on the ongoing threats and the road to recovery from the Los Angeles fires. #lafires ca-water-gov.zoom.us/webinar/regi...

Climate change is making Los Angeles more flammable. A new study from the World Weather Attribution (WWA) group has found that climate change has made the dry conditions fueling LA’s fires 35% more likely. As global temperatures continue to rise, these conditions will become even more frequent.

If you can, please give to the Pasadena Humane Society to help them care for #pets who have been injured and/or separated from their humans by the #lawildfires. give.pasadenahumane.org/fire

And of course World Central Kitchen worldcentralkitchen.org who are already on the ground in SoCal feeding people.

And this organization is helping animals who have been displaced by these fires. Donate if you have the desire or means to donate. pasadenahumane.org/eaton-canyon...

I'm covering #AMS2025 virtually next week, but passing this on to scientists attending the conference.

Experts say climate change is making #blizzards even fiercer. Discover why blizzards happen, how they are measured, and how we can prepare for them. My new book, "Blizzards," is a great introduction to the topic for readers 5 to 7 years old. Out on Jan. 7! amzn.to/4fIiC1t #kidlit #nonfiction

Loved Interior Chinatown! Go watch it. Fatty Choi is my spirit Asian. Now I'm curious about the book. #ronnychieng youtu.be/INim9MZmqe8?...

This year has been exhausting. Shrimpy agrees. Don't mind us as we rest and recover through to May 2025 when it's time to buy seedlings for the garden. #catnap

I love the Oxford comma, and I love this story of the $5M Oxford comma.

#Journalism #fellowship alert! Professional journalists worldwide can apply by Jan. 15 for Earth Journalism Network‘s fellowship to cover the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France. Fellows have expenses covered for travel and stay for the conference. buff.ly/3ZGmolP
