I wonder if we'll hear more about young female voters or young male voters.

As I noted in my recent post on "Blue Labour" we here an awful lot more about young men voting Reform here than the considerably larger % of young women who voted Green.

Labour's approach of avoiding wealth taxes to fund public services is called EFS (exceptional financial support). EFS "goes against good accounting practice" and "loads councils with debts" - great economic thinking, Labour! A real solution? Council tax reform! www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

The Greenway has been closed to people walking and cycling in east London for months, and the diversion is too dangerous. I've written to Thames Water, and everyone with a stake in the Greenway asking for a better diversion, and for better planning in future. (Link to letter in next post).

As Green Councillor @natehiggins.bsky.social says here, by changing the electoral system, we improve the way politicians listen to people and we include more people in decision making. “There is no monopoly on wisdom”. It’s really important we #MakeVotesMatter

"I'm scared about where things are going if we don't change the system." @newhamgreens.bsky.social councillor @natehiggins.bsky.social spoke to Young MVM Ambassador Amelie Abass about the dangers of a system that ignores millions of voters. 📹 Full interview: www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4ln...

Fascism is coming if we don’t start making people feel heard, and that starts with changing the voting system. Thank you to @makevotesmatter.bsky.social for the opportunity to speak about why our voting system matters so much.

Thank you to @tldrnews.bsky.social for covering the concerning lack of cut through for @greenparty.org.uk right now We have the policies the political moment calls for, and the public agrees. But that means nothing if they don’t hear from us Required watching for all leadership candidates 👇

Some more half marathon training, and this time managed to set a new PB for 10k! strava.app.link/r5246tLJTQb

Someone at the American Bar Association ate their Wheaties this morning.

You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

How can I avoid hearing/seeing anything about Kanye West for the rest of my life plz thnx

The absolute gall of the Tories decimating local government finance and then complaining about services (like street cleaning) being impacted.

Using a two party voting system where there are multiple parties is hugely dangerous …

Achieved a personal best 5k time at parkrun this morning with @adamhiggins.bsky.social for the first time since being hospitalised in April, when I had been at the peak of my adult fitness. I’m overwhelmed with joy to have got back to that level. Upwards from here! 💪🏃‍♂️📈 strava.app.link/FriIB6UTOQb

A third party being above 20% is nothing new. No parties being above 30% is what is new. The media needs to stop treating Reform’s polling as some unprecedented achievement and talk about political fragmentation and the danger of using a 2-party voting system in this context.

It takes a special kind of recklessness for Labour to increase council tax by a whopping 10% while gutting council tax discounts for our most vulnerable residents. @newhamgreens.bsky.social believe these are the very last residents we should be asking to pay more and will oppose this cruel budget.

How about less billionaires? And instead more schools, hospitals and council houses? @greenparty.org.uk will always stand with the 99%. 👇🏼

Thank you to @joehudsonsmall.bsky.social, Katie, @garypendlebury.bsky.social and Ren for joining me for my @newhamgreens.bsky.social councillor litter pick in Stratford Olympic Park today! Very chilly but lots of rubbish picked up. Great way to give back to our community.

Just listened back to @sianberry.bsky.social on Nicky Campbell on BBC 5Live from yesterday. Thank GOD for an MP who recognises that the UK needs people to protect our welfare state with an ageing population. Whoever that Labour MP on with you was was a total disaster🤦‍♀️

No. And anyone who says it can is lying to you. Climate Emergency. There's a clue in the last word. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Transport for London (TfL) is exploring whether Railcards can be linked to passengers’ contactless bank cards or phones, enabling them to enjoy discounts on their Tube travel: www.standard.co.uk/news/transpo...

Thank you @carolinerussell.bsky.social - young people should not have to pay more just to use modern payment methods to get around!

Thanks to @natehiggins.bsky.social for alerting me to ask a question of the Mayor about linking railcard discounts to contactless payments for TfL services. Helpful answer from the Mayor that should see using public transport become even more convenient, accessible and affordable for all Londoners.

What an INCREDIBLE Newham Greens winter social today! ❄️ We could hardly believe the turnout. So many Newham residents excited to hear about how they can get involved in our work. And yummy food! We have big plans for next year's elections. Get in touch to get involved!

If node can ship TypeScript support, there’s no good reason we can’t get it in the browser too.

the police have called in two democratically elected septuagenerian politicians who both happened to have contradicted the mets version of events yesterday… feds are drunk on power + clearly must be stopped. this is an outrageous attack on democratic rights and freedoms www.bbc.com/news/article...

Morning 10k 💚 strava.app.link/q3TS1H0xhQb

Decided this is the ditch I am dying in. We already had a word for "handing some budgetary and executive powers from central to local government" and that was "decentralisation"; if it doesn't have significant legislative competency it's not "devolution", it's sparkling local government.

parkrun was fun today! first sub 24 minute run since november! strava.app.link/prKkrk7SfQb
