So excited for the Criterion release of Carnal Knowledge…but why did they record a NEW commentary track with Neil LaBute?

I am also a Dr Santos defender and is probably the best version of the confident young Doctor archetype between ER and The Pitt with Benton being the midpoint and Dave Malucci being the very, very bottom of it.

Not only excellent for what’s quoted here but interesting details on the disagreement with the Crichton estate.

There should be a PTO option where you can take off because you’re too hornt up to work in an office

The score that’s turns a visually stunning, if glib, movie into an epic cinematic ballet

a cage full of shaved men in bunks stacked up to the ceiling is the modern day death camp. they are invoking the cruelty, the sadism, the AESTHETICS of Nazism and turning it against young Latino men. it is disgusting and it offends me in my deepest self.

“Yes, Mr. Thatcher. We *did* lose a billion dollars last year. We expect to lose a billion dollars *next* year. You know, at this rate we'll have to close this place in three thousand years.”

Yarvin and his ilk reminds me of the exchange from A Fish Called Wanda where Kevin Kline’s Otto’s retort to being called “an ape” is that “apes don’t read philosophy,” and Jamie Lee Curtis responds with “Yes they do Otto, they just don’t understand it.”

"Th’ abuse of greatness is when it disjoins Remorse from power."

I adore The PITT but all I can think of when I hear its name is the song Andy’s band performs in the first season of Parks & Rec. Official theme song when?

When the sunshine doesn’t cure my depression:

Remains one of my top movies from last year, if not right at the top.

49% of Troy was like "they tried to kill us yesterday" but 51 were chanting HORSE! HORSE! really loud

I’m grateful that I live alone in New York but especially at moments when I break out my middling Walter Matthau impression to complain that my apartment smells of garlic.

old Soviet joke for our times: Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesn’t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what he’s up to. Guy says: “looking for an obituary.” Vendor says “those are towards the back of the paper, comrade.” Guy says: “not the one I’m looking for.”

Calling yourself a king doesn’t make you a king. You have to drink Coca-Cola just like vintage wine.

A movie you’ve watched more than 6 times

This is a hard 42/43. We’re getting back to how people looked in their 30s in the 80s. Some real cast of Cheers shit right here.

You can get off my skyline with this relative time shit

And I knew Hegseth was out of his depth but Jesus Christ. Man’s so backwards he’s medieval with his “might is right” bullshit

I think it's worth repeating plainly that a federal judge halted Musk's federal funding freeze nearly two weeks ago but funds are still very much being frozen in violation of the court order.

Elon Musk is a terrible president.

Dr. Strangelove (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb) (Dir. Stanley Kubrick, 1964)

When I was 25 I was sad I had not written The Great American Novel. At 55, I realize there's no Great American Novel, there are merely the stories I'm the best person to tell. Don't worry about how others see greatness. Work on being the best version of who you are and what you can do in the world.

Only slightly related but this reminds me of a time when I was at a Cincinnati sushi bar and overheard a very intoxicated man say on his phone, “Don’t you sweetheart me, I will drop my balls and they will cover your face.” I think about that man every day.

I’ve missed the Postal Service on their reunion tours. I cannot and will not miss Rilo Kiley. Better Son/Daughter is framed in my apartment for several reasons

Rewatched Inglorious Basterds for the first time in what feels like a decade. I think it remains Tarantino’s best because it showcases his best qualities without the self indulgence that clouds his later works.
