This just amplifies the moral reason why liberals must do everything they can to make the areas they govern as affordable and accessible to as many people as possible. Every house or apartment we do not build is limiting access to constitutional protections.

This is a monstrous court that has decided that it agrees with Stephen Miller that America is a nation by and for white people and everyone else is just a guest whose invite can be rescinded at their leisure

The Supreme Court clearly believes that lower courts will act to block the birthright citizenship EO through other means (including class actions) in the next 30 days, and therefore feels like it's okay partially staying these injunctions. But man, they are playing with fire.

A fascinating map from @donnermaps.bsky.social overlaying Tuesday's Dem primary results with a map of the NYC subway system. Inspired by an astute observation from @kleinman.bsky.social, who noted that Mamdani did better in areas served by the subway while Cuomo did better in car-centric areas.

I think @bradlander.bsky.social standing up like this has been the single item that has made me even a little hopeful about our politics.

Brad knows how to show up and he's showing the rest of his party how to show up too, if they listen to sense and not fear.

Lander: "It's just gross, racist bigotry. Meanwhile he's running an optimistic, upbeat campaign for a NY where everybody belongs, and I feel proud as the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in NYC to be supporting somebody who would be the first Muslim mayor—what could be more NYC than that?"

This is a wonky process but BIG news regarding the Republican budget bill: My staff successfully got multiple provisions removed from the bill. Two key wins: 1) Medicaid provider tax. Striking this means Republicans have to backtrack on hundreds of billions in Medicaid cuts.

Again - his plan is to run a secret write-in candidate, but he can't tell you who it is.

Today is my final day as a New York City Public Schools parent. I’ve long planned to write a valedictory thread on what I’ve learned from the experience. I might still do that, but right now I’m exhausted and happy to take my eye off the ball. Congratulations to all graduates and their families!

Like, isn’t it just a city run food pantry vs a nonprofit run one?

I’ve heard Mamdani give versions of this line before but it’s worth repeating that his winning strategy was talking to actual human beings who might vote for him, versus some mythical voter democrats are trying to swing from the right who does not exist.

🚨 The Senate parliamentarian just disqualified a bunch of provisions from the GOP bill — including Medicaid provider tax language, funding restrictions based on immigration status, spread pricing and one prohibition on gender-affirming care. List via a Democratic budget aide:

oof...

the concept of my $250,000 political donation being mistaken for enthusiasm

There were a lot of people who backed Cuomo because they wanted him to win, but there were also a whole lot of people who supported him because they were afraid of what would happen to them *if* he won and they didn’t support him. Going to be interesting to see how many more of these come out.

Do it. Make it a 1:1 race between corruption and the future.

Still no word from Mamdani on what he's going to do about all these cats in my apartment.

making Fort Greene look like Fort Sumter

I cannot sufficiently put into words the histrionics that would commence if we had this very good policy.

Closing down the blocks in front of schools to cars is such a no-brainer on a policy level, but would likely trigger a community board thermonuclear war.

Brooklyn Democratic Party boss Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, a crucial Eric Adams supporter who notably chose to endorse Cuomo in the primary, now says she'll support Mamdani in the general.

Also: Mamdani could not have won without the alliances he built with Brad Lander and the other anti-Cuomo candidates, and it is an immense testament to him that he recognized that. Speaks very well of his ability to do the actual job if he gets through the general

One last thought - Zohran ran a very conventional campaign in a lot of ways. He had an incredible ground game and focused on basic cost of living issues while his opponent tried to beat him with culture war attacks about Gaza and Crime.

i would like it a lot of zohran did whatever it takes to keep lander involved with the campaign. ride a tandem bike with him in your ads man this is great stuff

After resigning in disgrace, Cuomo attacked the women he harassed with vexatious, punitive legal filings meant to bankrupt and humiliate them, and threatened to sue them for defamation. He wanted them to shut up. At great personal risk, they didn’t.

"GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE"

- focused like a laser on cost of living issues - spoke with “problematic” podcasters - refused to language police when media elites asked him to It’s really funny that Mamdani ran the perfect centrist campaign as a Democratic Socialist

wowowowoowowowow Cuomo on Mamdani "he won"

Is Cuomo going to concede? This is as close to a Cuomo conceding live I think.

Brad Lander: "I also need to thank some of the most important people in my life and on this campaign—I mean, of course, the NYT editorial board. Just kidding, of course: I love Wordle and Connections, but I really urge the Times to cancel their new feature 'Editorial Riddles.' No one likes those."

The elite reaction to this is going to be apoplectic.

There going to be one billion hot takes, but there is one extremely tangible takeaway... when you run for public office you should campaign - not whatever it was Cuomo's campaign did

The coalition of, and I am not kidding, "Michael Bloomberg, DoorDash, Bill Ackman" is going to drop 300m on this race.

Turns out, you can in fact run a values forward, energizing Democratic campaign against a known corrupted, billionaire-backed sexual predator born into privilege. The trick is you have to actually have a concrete populist agenda.
