Some new #paleoart of Iguanodon for #FossilFriday. Iguanodon recently passed its 200th naming anniversary and it's been drawn to death (it was - and I've done the maths on this - by far the most popular dinosaur subject of the 19th century), but it's still a cool animal to paint. #sciart #fossil

🧪 🦣 Every time there's a new press release on this, basic issues don't change - 1) it won't be a mammoth 2) what's the point of creating a woolly elephant to live in one of Earth's fastest-heating, ecologically unstable regions? Biotech seems to be the main winner here, not conservation 🤷🏻‍♀️

I went to How To Be A Whale at Winchester Cathedral last night, which was spectacular under these sculptures

If we’re renaming bodies of water based on petty grievances, I propose that this be renamed the Kendrick Lamar passage.

Intermittent reminder that Bluesky has a bat-feed and you should probably be following it because bats are honestly pretty great and why wouldn't you be wanting more bats in your life?

The true genius of Frasier as a character is that you could imagine him as both a murderer Columbo investigates and a friend of Jessica Fletcher

Multiple assaults on fascists with a variety of hand tools in the Vatican with a side order of graverobbing

ok but what about five baby foxes playing in the snow, though, did you even consider that

waaaaay too many people in the middle imo

The box I have sent to my enemies labeled "Live Scorpions," containing another, smaller, box also labeled "Live Scorpions" has my enemies asking a lot of questions already answered by the boxes of live scorpions.

This is why I think it's important to say 'generative AI' or 'genAI' etc when complaining about fully automated luxury plagiarism machines. A lot of AI and machine learning is good! It benefits genAI companies and enthusiasts if, when you say 'AI sucks', they can pretend you mean this stuff too.

Birnam Wood: I really enjoyed working on this illustration of the scene from Macbeth where Birnam Wood marches on Dunsinane. I hope to do more drawings like this for a series... #illustration #SciArt #oaktrees #oak #macbeth #shakespeare #thescottishplay #treeart #porcreate #birnamwood

"And to Tiny Tim—who did NOT die—life became the cruelest of curses. He is now 188 years old. Three-quarters mad from the horrors his unresting eyes have witnessed, he drags his withered body across space and time as he searches for one who can release him. Pray he never finds you, children. Pray."

characters most susceptible to the One Ring who would be destroyed and twisted beyond recognition the most quickly.

anagramming these “merry christmas” blocks is the only thing my husband has done the entire time we’ve been at his mom’s house

A #platypus gets so carried away with scratching that she rolls off her rock. She's itching mainly where her milk patches and her milk glands (which spread up round onto their backs) are, so I suspect she is lactating. #Tasmania #MammalWatching #platypuses #WildOz

It’s no coincidence that all these groups don’t automatically assume that admin are benevolent and acting in your best interest without being holding it sharply to account.

As a reminder that you don't need to be a professional photographer (or even post photos at all) to be a part of the Birds Feed, I'd love to see some of your #WorstBirdPics! 🪶 bsky.app/profile/did:...

I have a big article out today about being diagnosed as autistic while I was writing my latest book, & how tabletop games help me navigate the world as an autistic person. I hope it's interesting to some people. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

Following a brief Bluesy interchange about tawny frogmouths with @jackdashby.bsky.social I managed to find this picture of a nightjar I had seen years ago. They were called "goatsuckers", a libel started by Aristotle. The name looks better when the s is written as here in the old style medial s.

Presumably women had already had enough of having men take credit for their work and ideas long before gen AI was able to do it?

Important and exceptionally well-written survey.

Friendly neighborhood biologist here again. In the years since I've written this thread I've received lost of questions about how this relates to laws, biology, and gender. I'd like to answer some of them here, to the best of my ability. [an ongoing thread]

well, here it is lads after combing through some 1,400 records, it looks like the slender-billed curlew is indeed extinct and the last known photo taken in 1995 was probably at the point it slipped beneath the waves 🦉🧪 www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/new...
