You should invest in the environment by reintroducing lynx and wolves to help with the deer situation. Please stop cowing down to the ignorant members of the SNFU, and open up endless opportunities for biodiversity and tourism.

There's no ladder or goal to evolution, we're not higher than anything else. But I agree this is dangerous.

Apex predator reintroduction will always be the best way to restore woodland and sequester carbon. www.bbc.com/future/artic...

Good work but the best way to tackle climate change is to fix biodiversity to help sequester carbon. The science is clear yet you were so quick to dismiss lynx and other predators. It's time for courage, not cowardice. environment.leeds.ac.uk/see/news/art...

The best climate action comes from restoring the landscape to sequester carbon. Wolves do this amazingly: www.bbc.com/future/artic...

Considering how idiotically against reintroducing beavers they were this is 9bviously not true

Hell yeah

Indeed, I appreciate the respectful correction

I'm not disparaging them but I see your point

Flaming but at the same time just showing him he can't just dismiss the issue and forget about it.

You know what's progressive? Fixing damaged ecosystems. Due to the lack of apex predators such as the grey wolf in the UK thanks to pursecution, the deer populations now occur at unnaturally high densities. Without their reintroduction, our forests and wild ecosystems will never recover.

I'm just digging him for refusing lynx and other predator reintroduction on the mainland under his leadership. A shortsighted and idiotic denial of ecosystem health.

You know who you should give a warm welcome to? Native apex predators like lynx and wolves. Since only they can implement an effective ecology of fear to keep deer from overgrazing. But you dont care about ecosystem health or environmental stability.

You know what would be more inspiring? Taking initiative to restore the landscape by reintroducing natural processes through wild apex predators. But no, you're a little too cowardly for that aye?
comment in response to post
You know how you help the entire nation? Fixing the broken landscape by reintroducing predators to control deer. Unlike wolves and lynx, humans don't exert an effective landscape of fear. Only once they're back can we see the land start to heal.

You know what's beautiful? Functioning ecosystems. Due to the lack of apex predators such as the grey wolf in the UK thanks to pursecution, the deer populations now occur at unnaturally high densities. Without their reintroduction, our forests and wild ecosystems will never recover.

Love it

He like every other mp that refuses predator reintroduction are just wimps that ignore good practice and experts in favour of fear mongering.

You know what grows the economy? Wildlife tourism. In 2017, nonresident visitors to Montana spent $3.36 billion to see wolves, this supported 53,380 jobs and contributed to 58% of all dollars in the state. You are against this.

If you care about the planet why do you deny the importance of keystone species? You refuse to reintroduce a vital missing piece of the Scottish environment (apex predators). As an ecologist, I can easily say you are failing your nation. Without wolves and lynx, the ecosystem will never recover.

He is a disgusting coward

Sorry that didnt come across right. I mean in a perfect setting they would both level out to appropriate populations eventually. But working with hunters to level out deer first would be good to get those levels to meet better so wolves can do their job more effectively.
comment in response to post
I'm certain that wolf numbers would just grow to meet the appropriate amount. More would die from LoF lowering body condition entering winter too. But hunting/culls would do more for population overall.
comment in response to post
Populations yes, but grazing behaviour has always been controlled by natural threat of predation. It's only logical, and dancing around the well studied effects of the LoF effect just seems like a waste of time. Tldr: deer - predator = overgrazing. Deer + predator = regulation (over time).
comment in response to post
I mean wolf predation definitely WILL be the biggest factor in keeping the woodlands alive. Culling helps, but we can't replace the role of a true wild apex predator. the Landscape of fear implemented by a wolf will always be better than humans.

Any recommendations for areas? That's the biggest issue is looking for houses to rent in particular spots. It's the end goal!
comment in response to post
Would love to help with stuff like this, but never know the best areas for it. Dying to move up to Scotland.

I'd love to get this on audiobook if possible
