Am I the only one reading events that believes that the essential coup d’etat is now underway? Musk and his ‘boys’ have their hands on the purse, and are dictating firings. All hail Musk the Fhurher.

The shift to autocracy will not be trumps move. As he becomes more deranged and erratic, his cognizant supporters, Vance, Musk, Vought… will find a way, perhaps fatal, to dispose of him and advance the Agenda.

Bernie’s moment could be immanent. Too bad he’s not a bit younger. youtu.be/wm0QV1Tx2hg?...

We know that the Trump administration is going to screw his working class supporters at every turn. How to ensure that they understand what is happening and why?

As I wrote this morning to Democracy Docket premium members, everything we see going on in Judge Cannon's courtroom was entirely predictable. Read my full thoughts and my weekend reading list by becoming a member today. www.democracydocket.com/member-me/

There is no more important story that needs your attention than the fact that the GOP is trying to steal a North Carolina Supreme Court seat. Please watch, share, and take action. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xzh1...

I don’t think people understand how devastating the end of net neutrality, and consumer protections around internet connectivity, are going to be. Imagine the situation where you pay for 4 or 5 different streaming services, each with different “exclusives” — but for the Internet itself.

There is hardly any authentic Low Country cuisine left in Charleston (as practiced in the classic ‘Charleston Receipts’ cookbook, compiled by the dutiful bourgeois wives of the Charleston leaders of the day).

What Banksy says…

Merry Christmas.

A lesson for media executives -- bending the knee gets you nothing but scorn from your readers/viewers and ridicule from your regulator and the White House. www.cnn.com/2024/12/23/m...

@hcrichardson.bsky.social "In 1817, given the choice of subjects to paint for the Rotunda in the U.S. Capitol, being rebuilt after the British had burned it during the War of 1812, fine artist John Trumbull picked the moment of Washington’s resignation"

The algorithms have accurately identified me as a ‘senior’. So now I’m flooded with ads for geezer gear and fake drugs, ‘investment’ schemes, and attractive young women looking for - something. How do I tell the algorithms what I actually want to see?

@preetbharara.bsky.social A question for your show: Not that I wish the man any ill, but what would happen if Trump were to die before the inauguration? Would Vance get inaugurated automatically?

AOC: “Oh, I don’t think we’re witnessing the START of an oligarchy. I think we are fully here.” 🇺🇸

A clarion call for action from @hcrichardson.bsky.social and @jbf1755.bsky.social, inspired by @jamellebouie.net (www.nytimes.com/2024/12/18/o...). See also @joshtpm.bsky.social’s words on the power of opposition party action (talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/being...). It’s our turn.

Excellent @hcrichardson.bsky.social explainer on who lost/benefited from the budget deal and what it foretells. Republicans take care of their own: billionaires and drug middlemen. Dems are for the people. heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/december-2...

"The people surrendering preemptively think that they can safely do so because Trump will go away of his own volition. What they don’t understand is that their surrender makes it more likely that he’ll try to stay on indefinitely."

A far-right billionaire gifts private jet trips to a Supreme Court Justice. The Justice not only accepts them — multiple times — but continues to hide those trips from the public. The case for an enforceable code of ethics is ironclad.

"Elected Democrats do not get that luxury: Being demoralized to the point of paralysis is bad for their party and for the country. But it’s great for Trump." Where are the Democrats? ICYMI A.B. Stoddard:

Watch this inspirational call to action for us all 🔥 “What we need right now is for everyone to stand up and have courage. We need everyone to stand up and say, ‘I am not going to back down to this bully.’ We need people to be warriors for democracy.” @marcelias.bsky.social

Last night Timothy Snyder talked with Rachel about the idea of a shadow government to serve as a model and reminder of what is possible from a government of qualified people instead of Fox guests and family members. It came up twice, actually. Here's 1 of 2.

If Elon Musk, the world’s richest man who made his fortune in part through government contracts, really wanted to help the government’s finances, he could simply agree to pay his fair share in taxes. Or, I guess, he could fuck over kids with cancer.

Elon Musk and JD Vance publicly supporting the neo-Nazis of Germany's AfD, just as an AfD supporter/Elon Musk fan kills 5 and injures 100+ in a terrorist attack at a Christmas market in Germany. Vance's pro-AfD statement came *after* the attack. It's bad. Not sure what else to say. Dark times ahead.

What was the most profound, civilization-shifting technical innovation of the twentieth century?

I got laid off in the beginning of the year becuase the company was trying to cuts costs, yet they occupy a huge building that is 90% empty. Almost every thing they do can and should be done remotely. If they really wanted to cut costs they would sell the building. #shortsighted
