There's no placating the Brexiters, no reasoning with them, no basic comprehension or adulthood. You can't debate papers behaving like the Sun or the Mail this morning. There's nothing to debate with. They view all trading relations with Europe as humiliation.

Big shifts are happening. Trade. Defence. Borders. The UK and EU just signed a wide-ranging deal that signals a real “reset” in relations. What’s in it? Who benefits? And what’s still at stake? Read the analysis from five experts:

Interesting.. Tory Tobias Ellwood declares the UK-EU summit outcome a positive for Britain...

If only it were even 1% true...

If you only glanced at the RW tabloid headlines, eg while shopping in a supermarket, but didn't pay attention to the specifics of the Brexit reset, you'd walk away with a strong feeling that Brexit had been betrayed. ("All the papers I sometimes read say the same thing, so it must be true...")

Interesting. Will we see a LibDem-Labour crossover too? (Important: even if that were to happen, Labour would pick up far more seats than the LibDems because of FPTP. The LibDem vote tends to be more geographically concentrated. And of course it wouldn't save either party - or us! - from Reform.)

Reminder that the Brexit reset, like the US trade deal, is mainly a laundry list of things whose fine detail still needs to be negotiated and agreed. Neither is a "done deal" no matter how much trumpet-blowing was done when they were announced.

My summary of the UK-EU reset in three (3 min) parts… Part 1:

‘There is no going back - we are in a new era and we must work with allies' Foreign Secretary David Lammy says he is determined to fix the 'Tories’ decade-long alienation of so many of our friends and neighbours' as Britain is stronger with its allies www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

We have now had three consecutive days of screaming "Brexit Betrayal" front pages from the Daily Mail and the Express. First, the Daily Mail...

“Would you say the Conservative Party are still the party of business?” @vicderbyshire.bsky.social challenges Shadow Paymaster General Richard Holden over his party’s decision to oppose Keir Starmer’s EU deal #Newsnight

The people reading these "Brexit Betrayal" headlines and believing them are the same people Labour were trying to win over by acting all Reform-like on immigration. So all that performative cruelty last week was for absolutely nothing. But its consequences aren't for nothing - they'll ruin lives.

Kemi Badenoch & Nigel Farage oppose Starmer’s EU deal not because it’s bad for Britain, but because it exposes their lies. Their outrage is about protecting those lies, not the country. Britain’s ready to move on to real world, they’re still stuck in a fantasy. #r4today #BBCBreakfast #GMB #Skynews

British Meat Processors Association: Starmer has “managed to achieve what the previous government promised us originally but didn’t deliver”. ~AA

You look at the Tories, Reform and the rightwing press after the Brexit reset and you see just how mad they are. Genuinely frothingly insane. Desperate to insist that their Brexit moronathon is a win. Spitting with rage at their own failure. This sums them up… www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Angela Rayner and the Labour Party are complicit in a dangerous gamble with the nation’s security, turning a blind eye to the festering corruption at the Teesside freeport while championing the Tory-led nationwide rollout of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and freeports. Thread

Why do we let those grotesque right-wing rags get away with it?

Britain and EU 'turn a page' with Brexit reset deal – today's front page from The Independent👏

In some ways I’m quite looking forward to seeing the howler monkeys screeching out ever more demented violent sexual imagery at every minor decision to align the UK and EU economies. They’ve gone in pretty high with the gimp stuff. How do they escalate from here?

Turns out Brexit Derangement Syndrome is a thing after all.

Labour are missing a huge trick by not being bolder on Brexit. RW fury will be dialled up to 11 no matter what is agreed. Witness the back to back Brexit Betrayal headlines in the Daily Mail and Express. (Expect their screaming to continue for ages!) But it's very weak sauce for everyone else.

With today's Brexit reset, we've now reached stages 4 and 5 in my 2023 analysis of how Labour seem likely to lose the 2029 general election. Sadly so far things have gone pretty much as I predicted, though maybe substitute "Reform" for "Tories" in some later stages... medium.com/@edwinhaywar...

To every fisherman complaining about the possible deal in the EU reset, I hope @mrjamesob.bsky.social plays this #hrexit youtube.com/watch?v=mvBL...

Will today's Brexit deal leave the UK and the EU better off than we all were just before it was agreed? Definitely. Does that make it a good idea? Not necessarily. It is more than enough to raise the rage of the RW media to supernova levels. And yet in terms of actual reset, it's baby steps.

Labour constantly state that they won't overturn Brexit. People most attracted to Reform don't believe them because they're fed a continuous diet of "Brexit Betrayal" headlines by RW media. Other Labour voters and potential Labour voters believe them and are disgusted, disappointed and despairing.

Current Daily Express poll. How likely is it that anyone who still supports Brexit and reads the Express will vote Labour? I'd say it's more likely that they'll spontaneously sprout wings and fly. And yet that's the same group Labour are trying to win over by stomping hard on migrants.

Titus Gebel "I call it The Market of Living Together" 'All political systems are products' 'There are already 4,000 SEZs (NB 5,400 since this video was made) SEZs existing in the world, free cities are 'SEZs+' with a British Common Law System' Thread

Another normal day at the Express, with a mere 15 negative Brexit stories in the last 24h. 96% of their readership see today's reset deal as a betrayal. (Why would they think that when they're fed a constant daily diet of betrayal stories? Ah, yes...)

The Sun, Daily Mail, Express, Telegraph, GB News etc. are all using exactly the same language about today's very modest Brexit reset: - Betrayal - Surrender - Sell-out - Capitulation to Brussels A supernova would look like an ice cube compared to the fury of some of their correspondents.

*Copy one of Boris Johnson's stupidest and most self-destructive policies. *Ignore the massive wave of public fury it ignited. *Smear and attack anyone warning that it might not be a great idea. In this week's column I ask what the hell Keir Starmer is playing at. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The Conservative Party willfully inflicted catastrophic damage on the country with their flagship Brexit policy before leaving office - this latest revelation on small boat crossings should open the door to a frank & open discussion about the harm it’s actually caused youtu.be/AvrcESpVuRM?...

President Trump has said the U.S. needs a more “impressive” Air Force One, on par with the sleek jets he has seen in oil-rich nations in the Middle East. The two 747-200s that serve as Air Force One now are more than 30 years old and were meant to be phased out of service years ago.

Beginning Wednesday, shipments arriving in the U.S. from China and Hong Kong worth less than $800 could face 54% tariffs. Here's what to know.

"The poll found that 43% of respondents believe the UK should strengthen its trade relationships with the EU, while only 14% support improving relations with the US with the aim of convincing Trump to remove the tariffs."

The Environmental Protection Agency plans to rescind and reconsider limits on four different “forever chemicals” under a landmark drinking water standard implemented last year by President Joe Biden, according to documents reviewed by The Post.

The government has published no evidence to suggest that cutting disability benefits will get people back to work. The evidence it has published found that these cuts would plunge hundreds of thousands of people into poverty. I’m joining @trusselluk.bsky.social in calling on the gov’t to rethink

The EU is rolling out punitive tariffs against Russian fertiliser, using a trade bill which bypasses Hungary's foreign policy veto.
