When you've come up through a shady business you think everybody in the world is out to con you. The crook's paranoia.

This is truly shameful. Even China and Iran abstained. The US has put itself in the company of some of the worst states in the world - Russia, Belarus, North Korea. Hungary showing its true colours as Russia's Trojan horse in the EU as well.

The shame of it.

The United States just voted with Russia against peace in Ukraine.

Fantastic announcement today from the Deputy Prime Minister

🚨 Nim Needs YOU! 🚨 28-year-old Nim has acute lymphoblastic #leukaemia and needs a stem cell transplant. 🙏 ✨ Give hope to Nim, and others like him, by registering as a stem cell donor at dkms.org.uk/nim_tw

If you're writing for a paywalled organisation, you don't get to complain about people only reading the clickbait headline, them's the rules. If you don't want your beautifully nuanced column judged on a terrible clickbait headline, take it up with your employer.

Reform are panicking about people pointing out that they want to replace the NHS. So please don't share this clip of Nigel Farage saying he'd rather healthcare was done through insurance companies.

Dolcie-Mae from #Newport has been diagnosed with HLH - a life-threatening blood disorder. A stem cell transplant is her only hope for survival but she currently has no matching donor. 💔 🔄 SHARE and register as a stem cell donor at dkms.org.uk/dolciemae_tw to help find her hero.

Ooh. There's a debate on proportional representation in the Commons this Thursday. MPs Alex Sobel, Lisa Smart, & Ellie Chowns said: “The governing party has formally recognised that First Past the Post is a flawed voting system for general elections which is damaging to trust in politics." (1/2)

“Had Britain’s tax revenues from North Sea gas and oil been invested rather than spent, they would now be worth £450bn... one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds.” (Via Andy Beckett’s When the Lights Went Out, ‘09)

‘A tiny cabal of men and women control almost all of newspaper coverage.’ ‘The population is being groomed.’ @mrjamesob.bsky.social hits out at Rupert Murdoch’s influence over UK media.

This is a very well reasoned and worded complaint. Predictably, the response makes no attempt to address what it says

Elon Musk has become even more unpopular in the UK following his interventions on child grooming gangs Favourable: 20% (+2 from Nov 2024) Unfavourable: 71% (+7) Net: -51 (down 5pts) yougov.co.uk/politics/art...

British people now dislike Elon Musk more than ever with more than 7 in 10 having an unfavourable opinion of him. Even Reform voters are now turning against him

The UK’s right-leaning newspapers have unleashed a huge wave of editorials attacking energy secretary Ed Miliband since Labour's general election win. By the end of 2024 there were 45 – roughly two every week.

Kemi Badenoch shadow minister rejected calls for mandatory child abuse reporting in 2018 www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

Never has the fake 'patriotism' of the British right-wing tabloid press been more powerfully displayed than this week

Not a single Reform MP has bothered to turn up to today's House of Commons debate on tackling violence against women and girls

🔴Musk and the Media’s Weaponisation of Far Right Misinformation Is an Insult to Grooming Survivors If these outlets really cared about the victims, they wouldn't be deliberately fuelling the far-right’s selective outrage machine, writes @bearlypolitics.co.uk

Absolute garbage of a headline - what just happened is that a bill to protect vulnerable young people was voted through www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The FT has done some interesting research on why Americans live shorter lives than the English at every level on the income distribution scale. The US myth of personal freedom’ over collective support seems to play a part. More guns, more unsafe driving, people slipping through the cracks…

A number of Labour MPs here. Please follow them if you want to encourage them to stay, and use this place rather than Musk’s site.
