@fossunited's IndiaFOSS this year is hosting devrooms and the CFP is open now. If you run a FOSS-adjacent community in India (PL/ML/AI/Hardware/Data/...), please propose a devroom. You get the chance to host a mini-conference inside India's largest FOSS conference […]

Uninstalled the iwd package on Asahi (in an attempt to get 802.1x connectivity), lost all wifi. The easiest way to get the iwd rpm files on Asahi was to download them on MacOS and then use the EFI partition as a shared drive.

Threw my hat in the ring, standing for the @fossunited Governance Board elections. https://fossunited.org/ballot/election/2025-gb-nominations/c/dq8v16sjec

Arrgh. Just when I was starting to get used dealing with LLM-generated PRs, now I'm getting LLM generated feature requests. Without any rhyme or reason. And as always, it takes significant effort to deal with this bullshit because it almost sounds plausible. Please don't do this […]

@lifeeth Welcome to the fediverse!

Finally getting used to this #london weather. Here for another week, so if you're in London and wanna catch up, do reach out.

Doing some tabletop boardgame hacking with @me this Sunday. https://underline.center/t/tabletop-hackday-with-nemo-and-karthik/239 Will be working on some RL/Jax/boardgame.io implementations. Come join if this sounds interesting.

My new Schengen visa is unexpectedly valid already (applied from 8th Feb), so I might be able to turn up for #fosdem if I want it. But have a flight booked for 8th already, so decisions…

The non-profit status of Reporters Collective has been cancelled in India because “journalism does not serve any public purpose and therefore cannot be carried out as a non-profit exercise in India.” https://www.reporters-collective.in/blog/statement-by-the-reporters-collective

TIL https://daisyui.com/. Use tailwind, with semantic classes. I'm gonna try this on a few projects, but looks pretty neat.

Wiki is being a very social cat today at #UnderlineCenter

A cool tip I’d give to every regulator: Enforce all disclosures to be a) Machine Readable b) Historically Available c) Linked using Interoperable Identifiers d) Published with a corresponding schema.

The latest #SQLite release (3.48.0, released 2025-01-14) drops the TCL build-time requirement by switching from Autoconf to Autosetup, which comes with a tiny TCL implementation (Jim’s TCL, ~10k LOC). You still need TCL to run tests though. Would be interesting to see how distros pick this up. […]

Congratulations to @fossunited’s 5th Anniversary! I couldn’t find any pics from the first India OS conference that I attended, but I found a pic from the first BLR meetup where I gave a talk about the endoflife.date recommendations (June 2022). Wearing the same kurta today, come say Hi 👋🏻.

My AirPods went through a wash cycle in the washing machine. The one I could find still works, but the other is missing :( Very angry at myself for not checking the pockets. Aaargh.

Switched to OpenWRT on my ASUS RT-AX53U.

NEW: Platformer has obtained the dehumanizing new guidelines moderating what people can now say about trans people on Facebook and Instagram. Employees tell me these changes are likely to inspire more violence against LGBT people: https://www.platformer.news/meta-new-trans-guidelines-hate-speech/

i am looking for work. preferably between india and canada/usa, preferably in open source, preferably leading teams. but i'm good at a few other things, too. :) https://www.deobald.ca/essays/2025-01-01-i-am-looking-for-work-taylors-version/ retweets appreciated! (yeah. let's still just call […]

There's a new Kindle Jailbreak out, which works for all known Kindle firmwares (with a minor gotcha for the new color variants). https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/WinterBreak/

Some #ArchLinux news that makes me happy: - Python 3.13 is now available. - 7zip is now in the official repos (conflicts with p7zip). - Official package recipes will be licensed under 0BSD in a few months (https://archlinux.org/news/providing-a-license-for-package-sources/).

[Very minor spoilers for Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive Book 5 - Wind and Truth.] Finished #windandtruth today. It has a few faults, but delivers on most fronts - the ending is not something I was expecting. A lot of expected theories came true, but my favourite was Adolin’s storyline […]

Bluesky on my phone is back to the glitch state - Notification bubble keeps increasing, even though I am logged out.

Congratulations to @ThePSF's new Fellows! 🎈🐍🎉 👏 Artur Czepiel 👏 @kjaymiller 👏 @kojoidrissa 👏 @treyhunner https://pyfound.blogspot.com/2024/12/announcing-python-software-foundation.html Do you know someone deserving of Fellowship? It only takes an email to nominate, see […]

I’m on Day 7 of my Wind and Truth read, and my Kindle started glitching just as a certain Unmade shows up. My Kindle feels highly Invested right now.

Generated my GitHub Wrapped Year end summary (via git-wrapped.com). Quite surprised at the 7477 stars earned, since I have been pushing a lot of my interesting work to separate orgs.

Upgraded my @AsahiLinux setup on (M2/Air) to Fedora 41. I had to uninstall kunifiedpush, neochat, and telegram-desktop due to some KDE/QT dependency mismatch. Rest was all painless.

Thank you gmail (I've only had this account for 20 years and 6 months...)

i am looking for work. https://www.deobald.ca/essays/2024-12-10-i-am-looking-for-work/ content to follow, in case you'd rather not click the link.

Every once in a while, I still miss the io9 of old. 💜

Mastodon isn't perfect. But the fact a social network exists that is completely free to use, has no venture capital investors, has no shareholders to answer to, has no growth targets, with a web interface with zero cookies, and mobile apps with zero trackers at all with ten thousand […]

Attending a VCV Rack workshop tomorrow (https://blrhubba.in/event/8c9c9274-2e0e-4318-8bf6-ce4c1061b9e9), but it looks like there's no builds available for ARM64/Linux. Will probably suck it up, and use MacOS, but would have been nice to be able to use Asahi for the workshop.

Gonna send them a mail about it as well, but really annoyed by two choices made by the BLR Hubba / ByChoice tech team: 1. Signups only using Google accounts. 2. AI generated event promo images.

Updated my now page for December: https://captnemo.in/now/ I'm organizing Puzzled Pint on the 10th, and a talk by @carlmalamud on the 13th. https://hasgeek.com/servantsofknowledge/geekup-with-carl/ I'm considering going to the VCV Rack workshop tomorrow at BIC as well ( […]

Same jar, new cube.

My Jekyll-Sqlite plugin got to the HN homepage: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42244987 > It gives you the simplicity of the Baked Data pattern, and the flexibility of using SQL for data-wrangling, within a static site generator. > I've been using this across a few sites in production […]

How does anyone work in this weather. #bangalore.

Nature's Basket did a PR release for their 9th store in Bangalore, supposedly their flagship. There's a flurry of syndicated news releases, but somehow none of the news mentions *where* the new store is located. PR at its finest - so focused on promoting the brand and their launch, that it […]
