Oh dear. Alas, after my old Kindle became obsolete I ended up just using the app on my phone and prehistoric iPad. The latter which now desperately needs an upgrade because it can't even run Google Docs without bricking.

I am grateful for my husband who tells me to write my silly books and doesn't mind too awfully when I hang out with my magical peeps (you know who you are, and I love you all truly, madly, and deeply).

There's a lot going on here β South Africa's fiction reflects its melting pot of cultures. Some exciting stuff happening here.

* This auntie has, at times, enjoyed extreme schadenfreude when said thundering dundlemuffin got dragged in their Goodreads reviews for having their steaming pile of bantha poodoo published without the recommendations made after they had me fired off the job.

I make suggestions because I CARE DEEPLY ABOUT EVERY BOOK I EDIT, whether it's dark romance with hawt mafia bosses, YA science fiction with mad professors, or an epic fantasy with kitty-cat people.

Gentle reader, even before I dreamt of editing, I was a voracious reader. After 40 years of being a book dragon, I know what I'm looking at. And I can help you become a better writer. I promise. I am not making recommendations for shiz and giggles.

I've also encountered thundering dundlemuffins* with egos the size of a small planet who throw all their toys out of the cot because who the heck is this Nerine woman who DARES to tell them to change stuff on their manuscript that is simply the absolute paragon of literary greatness???

Either the publisher can just let it go, and hope the reviewers are kind. Or they can start getting heavy handed. Neither option is ideal β we should be able to coax along authors and get them on board.

Sometimes it's an author who's just inexperienced and labours under the assumption that certain issues are open for debate.

If an author is willing to revise and resubmit, you'll have an idea that they're serious about putting in the work. Too many times I've seen authors balk at edits once the ink is dry on the contract.

Veilguard hit me right in the feels. It was exactly what *I* needed to play when it came out. Thank you.

But mortality and the ephemeral and rather fragile nature of being is foremost on my mind at present.
Hug your loved ones. Go visit your friends for breakfast. Walk around the lake and look at the birds. Breathe in the sky.
Tomorrow might be snatched away from you.

I'm so excited for the one, because his first novella releases early next year, and we had a long talk about staying true to one's voice and creating for the sake of expressing self, and of course process. Process is everything.
