This is why we need Proportional Representation. But that's another thing Labour won't bring about. Much as I hate Reform Ltd, at least they're breaking the 2 party system.

Labour can't take anything for granted. In Scotland they won't get my vote as SNP and Greens can be trusted far more on Europe and on socialist policy. In England they benefited from the Con/Reform split and Cons being a shower of idiots. Unlikely to repeat.

PS: I believe Reform UK should not be on a Holyrood ballot. They are a Company, who are listed in London. Only parties with an internal democracy, a Scottish office and Scots residents on the ballots should run.

TBH after the work she's done on Cambridge Analytica and Brexit I realise I'm biased, though I hope she isn't. You're right there's little I can find, but she's got to be aware Putin is directly behind fomenting transphobia.

You can't expect everyone to know GMG platforms transphobia systemically, but I'm learning that. Nonetheless I can't imagine the Guardian as an equivalent to the Dearborn Independent, so it seems hyperbole and a false equivalence.

I had to look it up and I agree it looks questionable. Not sure she doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt though. Has she got previous?

How bad is it that I first thought this was a map of sewage spills into the sea..

I refer you back: attacking a worker on strike vs a company that you also hate is crass, counter effective too.
Do I need to be sorry for reiterating that point against large numbers? Should I apologise for being pushed in with trans haters? It won't happen.

Yeah, keep alienating as many people as you can.
comment in response to

This topic was about a strike against the GMG. At no point has anyone I'm arguing with offered sympathy for the plight of Carole or other strikers. Quite the contrary, nevermind that in GMG management you have a common foe. You can't ask for respect if you give none.

Arron Banks went after Carole mercilessly. She complained at the time GMG didn't support her enough.
We know Banks funds Farage's parties. Their bread and butter is virulent transphobia.
So having a go at Carole while she's striking against GMG is weird timing to say the least.

Not them. The actual people being priced out of private schools. Not the big bad bogeymen that Labour thinks they're punishing.
comment in response to

Define 'this'. Considering the original topic, what is 'this' about then?
You've decided what this is about, right? It's about what matters to you. Not the OP. Not the reason to strike. This thread is yours and anyone who says different is on an ego-trip.
comment in response to

Yeah, when I get told I just don't think transphobia is a real problem (on zero evidence, but who cares), why argue against that?

Who's filthy rich there? The kids whose parents can't afford a 20% hike in fees?

Nah, I don't live in the place I was born. Continuing to live under that regime is a choice, an endorsement.

I have zero sympathy for an artist who lives under the Trump administration, even selling their work in MAGA-land.
If all Americans are bastards, if one bad apple spoils the whole bushel, then one shitty 'artist' does the same.
*See how that works?*

Thanks, I had always hoped my criticism of Alba, JK Rowling etc counted for f-all. At least it's proven now that I'm an enemy. Because allies would of course attack a journalist who attacks the GMG, while she's fighting for an unrelated cause. How else could we alienate everyone?
comment in response to

Alright, got it. Carole must've known and she must have allowed it, seen as she's clearly in charge currently. Fair assumption, so yeah let's attack female journalists over their links to dodgy men. Sounds fair.

Wow a false equivalence bordering on a Reductio ad Hitlerum, while answering a question with a question. Now there's a big if. Well done!
I'm simply awe-struck. What other reason could there be for me waking away? One can only conclude you've made friends, influenced people and won the argument đź‘Ź

Perhaps because very private schools are like Eton, much like very few cars are a Bentley. The increase in VAT makes private schooling more of a privilege for the wealthy while the less well-off kids get taken out of schools in the middle of the school year. Oh well.
comment in response to

Alright, so Carole is either a bigot or a pawn who spreads transphobia? And this needs calling out while she's on strike against an organisation who are accused of the same.. Because finding common ground and supporting striking workers are so passé..
comment in response to
post
She's previously been a victim of trolling from the right while GMG failed to stand by her.
Now that she's on strike against that company while they're selling out, you're contributing to a pile-on under her posts. Mind if I find that uncool?
For something completely unrelated.
comment in response to
post
So you're attacking Carole over an ex-colleague that may have sexually harassed her? While she's on strike against the company that covered that up?
Maybe try making sense.
comment in response to
post
Yeah, increasing private school fees really hits those that can easily afford it. Right?
comment in response to
post
But oh yeah she's upset a lot of people by taking a screenshot of a post by an asshole, about a typo from the people who keep the paper running while the main staff are on strike. Burn the witch eh..

Attacking Carole in particular is in poor taste, I find. The linked article explains why.

PS: GMG are salon socialists and it's been a long time since I read the Guardian or Observer. Criticism of the organisation and its editorial policy however would normally mean you attack *them* rather than the staff on strike.

Whataboutery is a logical fallacy closely related to an Ad Hominem. Does that help bring you back to the topic at hand?
comment in response to

It wasn't a response to you, and having sympathy for a workforce on strike isn't supporting an organisation that promotes trans hostile messaging.
comment in response to

The point you're making is that because some bigots work(ed) at the Guardian, you're able to put them all in one group. While they're on strike, but you've hijacked that topic.
This isn't about "can't we all be friends". More about whether you and Erwin could stop being scabs.

Just extracting your response:
They. They. We. You. The rest of us.
Can you see this? You're speaking on behalf of a group. Assuming I'm part of another group opposed to yours.
This is how to widen a chasm, not how to bridge a divide.

That 2020 letter had 300+ signatures from people that work at the Guardian. Enjoy your righteous pile-on though. Breaking through picket lines to point fingers at someone who's been SLAPP'd and bullied by right wing trolls must feel blissful. I'm out.

You'll be glad to know that the US has a binary election system where the winner takes all. So yeah make sure to tear into people you agree with almost completely, so you can't effectively oppose people that hate everything you stand for.

I think she responded with something like "you're more likely to stand with Banks" before blocking me. Ignorance is bliss.
Look, if you're going to attack people who are on a picket line, check if you're wearing jack boots. That's all.

I can either go with your assumptions and kick these journalists while they're down in a fight against yet another corporate takeover, or go with the fact that there are numerous and prominent pro-LGBTQ+ voices at GMG.

Have you failed to notice you're the one trolling a journalist on the picket line? One in particular who's been trolled relentlessly by Banks, an opaquely funded Brexit-backing friend of fascists? You might have your reasons, but check every now and then whether you're wearing jack boots.

In Stephen King's "The Langoliers" a few woke migrants are chased by destroyers of worlds. In a sense. That's us. We're stunned, appalled, on the run.
To hell with them. Let's argue why the ECHR isn't enough. Why the EU and NATO should expand. We make the changes going forward.
