America’s growing darkness: a timely warning to the UK “Living amidst chaos in the US, I fear a creeping regime reminiscent of 1930s Germany. Project 2025 echoes a history threatening democracy” eastangliabylines.co.uk/democracy/am...

Wow. The Bessent FT op-ed on the US economic development plan for Ukraine is quite something. This is a nineteenth century great power behaviour. www.ft.com/content/91a7...

Trump has replaced the head of the military, FBI, stacked SCOTUS and stated “He who saves his country does not violate any law”. He’s sided with autocrats above allies and is purging the public service of non-sycophants. AUKUS? Still beyond questioning? What would it take?

"You have to go back to 1931 for Australians to reject a first-term government." - Barry Cassidy www.theguardian.com/australia-ne... Tony Barry thinks we're in for a new paradigm, but that Dutton will fall short of a majority.

PRAMS is the source of data for basically every effort to limit infant mortality and all the health dangers mothers face before and after birth. So a pretty big deal the Elon and Co decided to cancel the program.

Ukraine has pushed back against US demands for a $500 billion fund that would be part of a deal to give Washington a cut of the country’s mineral wealth.

Berlin today. Dark and tense mood hanging over everything. As ppl head to the polls tomorrow, the stakes could not be higher for Germany’s future and Europe. And everyone knows it here.

@simonmarksfsn.bsky.social Great show Simon! Thank you.

Wonderful! Thanks John Cleese!

@simonmarksfsn.bsky.social Awesome! Thank you for reading my post on your show!

@keirgiles.bsky.social Australian here. Could Australia withdraw US access to Pine Gap? It’s on our soil after all. Some people now starting to think US is an adversary. TIA.

russia is a kleptocratic dictatorship, an economy and political system in decline under a government that stopped investing in human capital decades ago. the united states alliance with europe is far more valuable and should be treated as such by american leaders.

Check out Verity Cooper. Independent Not Shit Candidate for Sturt. Seems a lot better qualified for the job than someone who just got the job because he made coffee for the prevous incumbenthttps://www.veritycooper.com.au/?recruiter_id=5566

Only upside of Trumps betrayal is that he has created one of those defining moments - when people in all sorts of areas - feel the need to make it clear where they stand.

If you're concerned by the USA under Trump, and the danger this presents, please consider reading & signing Adam Jacoby's petition urging our AUS Parliament to reconsider Australia's alliances, agreements and cooperation with the USA. 👇 #auspol #USPolitics www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/...

putin is a war criminal. i have no problem with the us president (or macron or scholz) talking with him. but under no circumstances should his crimes be normalized or white washed. what’s happening right now is a stain on the united states and its role in the world.

Some thoughts on the meaning of last year's US elections, and subsequent developments, for other nations (including Australia): johnmenadue.com/europeans-an...

What a turnaround. Whoa.

@chriswallace.bsky.social Just an observation. IMO ‘traditional’ parties seem unable to deliver what voters want, which is why so many are turning to the likes of MAGA, Reform UK, and possibly AFD. We don’t have these alternatives here so they’re going to try Coal again instead. It’s sad.

Net approval ratings in today’s Newspoll: Albo -21, Dutton -10. 🫣🤯 If either side REALLY wanted to win they’d swap out their leader for someone fresh who voters will back. Too late? Bob Hawke became Labor leader the day the 1983 election was called - and won. #auspol

Terrific from James Curran AFR & Mick Ryan SMH today. - The US cannot be relied on. - We have to face this & establish real defence self-reliance. (Me: AUKUS, a rubbish Morrison thought bubble unwisely embraced by Albo & Marles, can’t survive this.) #auspol

Most smart Americans know this. US post war hegemony was mainly voluntary (with huge exceptions at the margins - Vietnam/Latin America/Iran/Iraq). Many nations sheltered under its nuclear umbrella because it seemed better than any other option. MAGA has no such attraction

Starmer confirming the UK is willing to put boots on the ground in Ukraine. An immense moment. Hard to overstate how important this is or how impressive it is that he's done it.

No one in Berlin won’t commit to troops before the election. Might be very different in a week from today. Germany will hardly be able to stand on the sidelines after this. 👇

My column for ABC: Immigration is a mess, controlled by business and universities. There should be a target that balances housing and demography. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...

I wonder, because of the completely broken media these days, whether Americans have any clue about the chaos they have unleashed on the world, and their complete loss of status

This explains why Trump is more like a low-grade used-car dealer than a president. www.nytimes.com/video/us/pol...

And right on cue, Dutton floats extending proposed divestiture powers beyond the supermarket duopoly to force a break up of insurance giants. Reading the room - voters want governments to be more than bystanders. Neoliberalism is dead. The game has changed.
