Three new books to read!

Which awesome people are philosophers and deeply interested in extreme metal or hardcore. I was planning to do an online workshop, but my life went pearshaped for a bit. I'm doing well now, so considering organizing something alongside a metal fest in 2026 (probably with @willfleisher.bsky.social)

Short review of @birchlse.bsky.social 's The Edge of Sentience (I will need to write more, but this one was long overdue for Audiobooks): I have been following Jonathan Birch and assigning his articles to students for years and I was hence thrilled to learn about this book. 1/

I’m really intrigued by the lingering effects of aesthetic experiences. After Deathfest, I can’t stop thinking about blast beats and pinging snares, and those thoughts run in the background when I’m doing other things. This happened last year as well, but it doesn’t happen after Roadburn 🤔

I think the decision to use LLMs is a decision to build a worse world, where people seem less valuable, and where the valuing of products over processes is exacerbated. Kevin is a good dude; he‘s not wrong about these uses. But I wish we were trying to build more caring even if less efficient worlds
