I'm a huge fan of any lure with a metal blade. Over the past year, I've also really fallen in love with kayak fishing in the rain. My latest YouTube video combines both of those things! Bonus: I didn't get skunked. 🦨 youtu.be/p1rdbh9Xqz0

Looking for new metal options to fish in rainy and windy conditions? You already know about spinners and Beetle Spins, but have you ever tried the Z-Man Flashback Mini? Think ChatterBait, but crappie-sized. New video coming soon! https://newdawntackleco.shop/products/z-man-flashback-mini

Show notes are here for episode 14 of The Cottage Chronicles. I'm pleased with this one. It features most of my favorite things: fishing, birds, traveling with my wife, and lessons from the water. Check it out, and let me know if you liked it! newdawntackleco.shop/blogs/news/t...

Episode 14 of The Cottage Chronicles is finally here. It's been a couple months, but I really wanted to wait until I had some good stories before releasing another episode. I think the wait was worth it! Hope you'll dig it too. #fishing #kayaking #podcast #outdoors

Rock bass? Not what I was expecting, but I'll celebrate a first catch regardless of species. Double points for a reservoir fish. Usually, a reservoir trip is a surefire way to get skunked.

The bite around here is inconsistent between the wind and rain, but the Beetle Spin was the ticket today. Got a couple yellow perch and 3 chain pickerel before the bite totally shutdown this afternoon.

Found 30 minutes to fish before a thunderstorm and the river was generous. Got a chunky 15" brown trout while throwing a spinner around

Not the bass I was after, but I'll take a 25" drum any day. This was the first fish I've ever landed on a crankbait too. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Found the biggest bass of my life yesterday, but I couldn't crack the code. I think it was blowing up on small frogs. Going to see if I can track it down again today. Meanwhile, enjoy this water snake. It, too, was among the biggest I've seen.

Got the boat out for the first trip of the season. #Fishing was good with big pickerel, crappie, bluegills, pumpkinseeds, and a couple small bass. Storms held out all day and I hung out with my dad. This is what Saturdays should be.

Public Lands Need Your Help: Most hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts are overwhelmingly opposed to the sale, privatization and exploitation of our most precious resource: Public Lands. Public lands, by law, are public and should stay that way. #support #publiclands

A couple of additional catches from this weekend's shenanigans. I wanted to test alternate thumbnails for the video, so here are some dinks from Saturday. #fishing #kayaking #outdoors

First proper #fishing video is here! I hit many of my favorite spots on the river and the Spring bite was on. (Screenshot taken around the 9:35 timestamp if you want a quick pickerel fix.) As I get the camera work and editing figured out, I want to start product test videos in a similar format.

While YouTube decides whether or not to cooperate and update the intro music, here's a preview of what's to come. I hardly ever fish jerkbaits, and I'd never landed a fish on one unless you count jointed minnows. This weekend was something else!

Making a weekend trip just north of Albany over Memorial Day weekend. Any #NY anglers have must-see #flyfishing #kayaking or #fishing spits nearby? I'll take gladly food or entertainment recommendations as well. Wife's favorite #Celiac friendly dive in the area closed since our last trip.

Today was a good day. I saw big snapping turtles, my first swallowtails of the season, got into some big pickerel, and finally landed some fish on a jerkbait. I even filmed some #fishing and #kayaking footage that I need to review. Now I have to rewrite part of my #podcast. This is a good thing. 🙅‍♂️🦨

I had to zoom 4x to try to get a good shot, so I'm impressed that this clip came out as clearly as it did. Here's my lunchtime #fishing buddy. I think we both got skunked. If you don't spend at least half of your time on the river watching the wildlife, what are you even doing with your time?

Not sure how clear the footage came put, but I spent half my lunch break watching a mink cruise along the bank and explore a fallen tree. I wouldn't mind if more skunk sessions turned into mink sessions. 10/10 highly recommend!

I sincerely believe that those pushing return to work mandates have never experienced the joy of a lunchtime #fishing session. I just missed the first trout bite in two weeks, but I'm still feeling chipper. Try recreating that excitement from a cubicle!

The weirdest fishing treasure I've witnessed was a duck decoy that a charter captain found while we were trolling for mahi and blackfin. I guess my baseball from today's #flyfishing trip takes second place overall. Still, I wasn't expecting it on the riverbed. It's not in terrible shape either.

I've been really enjoying #outdoor and #fishing essays lately. Loved John Gierach, T. Edward Nickens, and Aldo Leopold. I like vivid storytelling and common language. Steinbeck, London, Hemingway, and Twain are all staples on my bookshelf. Tolkien too So, any #book recommendations?

Skunked two days in a row, but the weather has been gorgeous. I can't really complain having this in walking distance of my house.

newdawntackleco.shop/blogs/fishin... This isn't just a blog post about how much I love spoons, but it's not not that either. If spoons aren't part of your Spring #fishing rotation, it's time to change that!

I'm still riding the high of catching two rainbow trout yesterday after a season-long skunk during Spring (and much of Fall) 2024. I still want to catch one on the fly, but I'm taking baby steps. I threw a San Juan worm around a little yesterday. Nothing took interest, so I switched to spinners.

Good day in the woods. 3 hours wading yielded two 13" bows and a follow from a third, similar-sized fish.

Found out about a boat doing Northeast Canyons trips for shorter durations and much cheaper than what I'd previously considered. It's time to start planning a bucket list trip.

Finally figured out how to get clips off my new camera. I didn't capture much of my #flyfishing misadventures, but the footage looks great! Can't wait to capture something other than a snag. I think I'll bust out the spinning gear for a while longer while I focus on basic videography. Let's go!

Now and then, I'll get an order for 2 - 4 of the same item. It's always an order that costs more to ship than the products themselves are worth, and it's always items that are available locally for less than this order would cost. These scammers are getting lazier and lazier.

A few more pics from yesterday's experiments. I'm eager to fish these, but it's currently 40 degrees and rainy. I think a product test will have to wait. #fishing #baitmaking #smallbusiness

A few experiments from this afternoon. I started with the bluegreen bottom color, added some remelt for the middle iteration, then threw in some purple to get this junebug/sour grape situation.
