This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

I think about this a lot. We see huge protests in other countries. I wonder if another reason is that the U.S. is so large, people can't just make a day trip out of it to protest in DC. The travel expenses are prohibitive. Would local protests against Trump/Musk even work?

My Spectrum promotional credits are gone & no way I'm paying $90 for spotty internet. Chatted to see if I can keep the costs lower. Finally just ended up asking what to do to cancel & they were like "call this number & return equipment k thx byeeee" So I guess they don't want my business.

what the crap

What can you do? Don’t give up hope. Dictators feed off your hopelessness. Don’t quit. Dictators want you to give up. Punch back. Dictators are bullies, and bullies are cowards. Stay tethered to the truth. Dictators need you to believe their lies. Resist. Stand with others.

When social media exposes traditional media’s deceit, it’s time for independent journalists to investigate why the press is backing a president who undermines free press—and is it coordinated?

Hey look, it's my parking garage. #UniteAgainstBookBans #FreedomToRead

This is as good a summary as any of Trump's approach to government: it's awful and I don't know anything about it

WHOEVER IS SHOOTING OFF FIREWORKS IN KANSAS CITY RIGHT NOW - ARE YOU *KIDDING* ME?!?!

Just saw a farmer say, "you don't have to admit you were wrong, you have to admit you were lied to, " and idk that seems like a good framing to call people in

I am 1000% down for this. Who's in, KC??

We are in a war on knowledge, a war on facts, and a war on truth. The atrocious sacking of the 11th Archivist of the United States, Colleen Shogan (which she announced on her LinkedIn account last night) heralds a new era of burning of the books. www.linkedin.com/posts/activi...

Hmmm... sending a lot of disgruntled highly trained former intelligence officers with classified information out into the world with no job and feeling undervalued just seems a very bad idea to me.

It’s official: The NFL has ended racism! All it took was a can of paint, some corporate kowtowing, and exactly zero systemic changes. Great job, everyone—same time next century?"

We just lowered max borrows/month & adjusted our limit for audiobooks down to $1.99 because Hoopla is quickly becoming unsustainable for us. They're taking advantage of the growing # of people using their library's digital offerings (up 30% last year at my library) & raising the prices. Booooo,I say

mind you, this "doge official" IS A FRESHMAN AT NORTHEASTERN

I think this is a brilliant idea.

cannot be said enough that for a decade a critical number of americans have simply refused to accept that he means what he says

This is a digital book burning of vital and critical data and information. www.axios.com/2025/01/31/h...

Watching this on repeat how is your day going?

💯

If you're traveling right now by air, didn't be a dumb dumb like me and forget to bring a mask for the plane. Because you WILL regret it a few days later.

This is what led to book bans targeting Toni Morrison and Maus at the state level. When you threaten people's jobs--or even imprisonment-- they will interpret you as broadly as possible

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research. I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.

More of this, please

This is true! Ask away! There is either a place on their website or in your account that will tell you how to do it.

Money really can’t buy you love, and it increasingly seems like the answer the nation’s ultra-rich have to that problem is to destroy and disarm anything they believe is even remotely critical of them. It’s a tragedy, really. Modern Shakespeare tale kind of stuff.

We keep hearing about masculinity from the Zuckerbergs of the world-- this woman has shown more courage in this 60-second clip than any of the tech billionaires have shown in recent memory as they grovel at Trump's feet.

In talking about the information environment, this is the free speech crisis that's been hiding in plain sight and now it's boiling over.

“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” - Dr. Martin Luther King

I will never stop being mad about how the media has treated the anti-trans movement as a group of ordinary people with legitimate concerns rather than the obvious frothing bigots they are.

tonight kind of feels like that episode right before the final Game of Thrones battle, in the sense that we're all waiting for something so profoundly disappointing that it will ruin all the seasons that came before it

It is going to be very important that we come together around policies that would open the way for the use of subnets for medical and public health information online. Just like .GOV and .EDU, we need a .MED or .SCI to indicate hospital websites and other public health resources.

I hate everything right now

Just making sure that everyone is aware of this crab that NOAA scientists found

Reposting these as a reminder.

Hey, Kansas City - have you considered having Restaurant Week when it's nice out and people can walk to your restaurants?

"When Mexico sends its people, they're sending their best. They're sending firefighters to help solve American problems. They're bringing fire fighting uniforms. They're bringing fire fighting equipment. They're bringing kittens down from trees. And all, I assume, are good people."

This is sickening

FIRE! Disney-themed speakeasy for the win. Do people still say 'for the win'?

Of course the billionaire founder of Politico was surprised that people canceled their WaPo subscriptions over Bezos' capitulation to Trump. He cannot fathom people wanting to support institutions they believe share their values and aren't transparently hypocritical in claiming to support democracy.

Um, why are they acting like he actually wrote the thing? If he even approved it, he definitely didn't read it.

As someone with a master's degree concentration in archives, this whole thing infuriates me and goes against everything archives should be. #ActivistArchivist
