Radiolab did an episode about hermit crabs and crab evolution that is worth a listen. They concluded that the crab form is the ultimate evolutionary design. Although they didn’t consider troll dolls, so there’s that.
Welp I'm one of the people they interviewed...we definitely did not say that, although I don't think editing represented us very well. Crabs seem to be solving environmental challenges in the same way multiple times (this guy is itself a false crab!) but it's not optimal in every environment
You're not wrong. I typically default to they/them pronouns when I am referring to humans and I'm unsure of their preferred pronouns, but didn't think about how I still do it with animals.
