Seems like a layup here - aren’t all these firings an opportunity for Dems to run on a massive jobs program to refill these positions? Tax the fucking billionaires AND we’re gonna use that revenue to create thousands of federally protected, hopefully unionized, well paying jobs.

There are plenty of republican lunatics who are too far gone to bother with, but there are many voters who aren’t (this woman isn’t even a republican). These working people are vital for building a movement. Better to appeal that they’ve been lied to by conmen vs telling them they’re just wrong.

There are plenty of republicans who are too far gone to bother with, but there are many who aren’t - the latter are strategically vital for building a movement. We’ll get further by sympathetically explaining that they’ve been lied to by conmen, not screaming that they’re wrong or stupid.

This is literally politics. People prioritize their own interests and it’s not uniquely American as people around the world vote for candidates who promise them stuff. Yes they’re gullible and misinformed to trust the GOP. Dem establishment needs to update the playbook or this will keep happening.

I know the material reasons for the rise of fascism. I also think another reason - which doesn’t get talked about as much because it’s embarrassing that humans can be that naive - is that when you are financially comfortable but bored, abstract cruelty can give you a sense of purpose.

First order of business for this nascent working class alliance should be making it very clear that the “good billionaires” are not part of it.
If they want to help, just leave the bag of cash at the door and accept this is merely them returning wealth that’s been stolen from workers.

It is a phenomenal opportunity to organize them behind a common cause, esp considering that folks like this haven’t traditionally been part of left coalitions. I hope that’s about to change.

People have the right energy here but it’s cope - those now talking about “shooting back” at the military were prob also ridiculing fash 2A militias doing the same bc they’d immediately be wiped out by a drone strike. Think asymmetrically, organize, and accept it’s gonna take longer than 4 years.

We have a long history of letting people like this off the hook going back to Reconstruction and as recently as J6. Always comes back around to bite us. It is possible though: Bolsonaro in Brazil. Dem primaries are next and only chance to get there - if we favor status quo, it’ll happen again.

I’ll add that the GOP (and capital) understand that their opposition tend toward non-violence and norms and they’re fully exploiting that. They’re coaxing us to violence - they want that - but real talk: even if left/liberals wanted to oblige them, we’re not even close to ready to deal it out.

Not advocating for it, but at a certain point a line is crossed and nonviolence can no longer deescalate or redraw the line in a just way. We’ve all got our own lines but it’s a paradox if your line is ‘get in the boxcar’ bc it’s too late to act, so what good was the line that got you there?

I for one, look fwd to the day these mfr’s beg for empathy and appeal to morality when justice inevitably and righteously comes for them.

Tfw your political party hasn’t expressed a coherent political ideology re: material conditions since like 1933.

Americans have been so heavily propagandized they have no idea what left, liberal, or centrist actually mean.
But if you ask them how they feel about issues, like taxing the rich, healthcare, or the environment, they pretty consistently take the left-wing position a majority of the time.
