Bookends: a reference manager - like Endnote but done properly. A joy to use, and it has the best support I’ve ever experienced. Also Scrivener for writing projects until the sad moment when they have to go into Word.

Worth perhaps noting that "literally" is pretty much never—as often claimed—actually used to mean "figuratively". It's often used as an intensifier with figurative expressions, which is not quite the same thing.

Understood, and again, I agree. Trump is off the scale as far as comfortable western democracies go. Modi and Orban might be closer comparators.

Yes. Also a personal thing: since a brush with them decades ago I’ve been describing the Home Office as malevolence tempered by incompetence.

I wasn’t being flippant: our mainstream right wing is both malevolent and incompetent. But of course the far right are worse and should never be anywhere near power.

Agreed on broad and narrow. Not at all sure about ‘knowing and awareness’. I would go with (mental) information processing - and hope no one asks on what definition of ‘information’.
