“The FBI arrested a Wisconsin judge who stood up for due process for immigrants. This is unprecedented. All of us need to stand up and speak out against arresting judges in this country. We are living in dangerous times.” — US Rep. Ro Khanna

Im with Judge Hannah Dugan

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant" (Mt 25:21).

Wisconsin legislators on the Trump regime’s arrest of Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan: “We call for the return of American law and order and an end to the administration’s ham-fisted attempts to replace it with authoritarianism. We roundly reject fascism in the United States.”

Dozens of Wisconsin and national elected officials have condemned the arrest of Milwaukee Judge Hannah Dugan — in one of the loudest objections yet to Trump’s assault on the judiciary.

Trump’s underlings are arresting local judges as part of what Tammy Baldwin calls the “deeply concerning pattern of this president’s lawless behavior and undermining courts and Congress’s checks on his power.” Baldwin isn’t alone. The arrest of Milwaukee Judge Hannah Dugan has drawn a loud outcry.

The Trump Administration arrested a sitting judge at the Milwaukee County Courthouse. Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin says that: “By relentlessly attacking the judicial system, flouting court orders and arresting a sitting judge, this president is putting basic democratic values.” She’s right.

MI Sen. Elissa Slotkin says Dems shouldn’t use the word “oligarchy because she claims Americans don’t understand the word. Gonna trust Joe Biden on this one. Biden warns that “an oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power and influence that really threatens our entire democracy.”

Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin says Democrats should stop using the term "oligarchy" because, she says, no one knows what it means. These people say she’s wrong.

There is no such thing as “a modern monarchy.” Today’s monarchies are merely debris left over from the feudal past. They belong in the dustbin of history. The royals should get real jobs, pay taxes and respect that there is NO right to rule. When they fail to do so, presidents get dangerous ideas.

Senator Bernie Sanders is encouraging progressives to run for federal, state and local office in races across the country. He is urging them to break through “the mindset of powerlessness” and forge a new politics.

“I appeal once again for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.” — From Pope Francis’s final statement on Easter Sunday, 2025 Under Francis’s leadership, the Vatican did not merely advocate for Peace. It announced the formal recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state.

A decent man.

“As long as the problems of the poor are not radically resolved by rejecting the absolute autonomy of markets and financial speculation and by attacking the structural causes of inequality, no solution will be found for the world’s problems or, for that matter, to any problems.” — Pope Francis

Pope Francis has died at age 88. This is what I wrote about him yesterday, before his passing, for The Nation.

Every evening, without fail, Pope Francis speaks with priests and parishioners at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Gaza City. He tells them that they are not forgotten and that, as long as he has a voice to cry out for an end to the Israeli assault on Gaza, there is hope for peace and justice.

Pope Francis remains in daily contact with the Palestinians of Gaza and has consistently called for an end to the Israeli assault on the enclave. He has emerged as the world’s most prominent advocate for a renewed ceasefire, arms embargoes and international interventions to achieve permanent peace.

"Freedom is not given, it is won." — Paul Revere, member of the Sons of Liberty, sworn foe of monarchy, plutocracy and oligarchy

“For, borne on the night-wind of the Past, Through all our history, to the last, In the hour of darkness and peril and need, The people will waken and listen to hear The hurrying hoof-beats of that steed, And the midnight message of Paul Revere.”

Elizabeth Warren is busy being a senator. But just image how much better off we would all be if she had a cable show where she could explain the basics to clueless corporatists.

What subject that most Dems avoid did Bernie Sanders discuss at Coachella? Gaza. What was the response from young potential voters? Cheers for the fact that Sanders recognized an issue that matters on a fundamental level — and that young people (and others) say must be a part of our politics.

Jimmy Carter’s understanding of human rights extended from FDR and imagined what might well have been an American social-welfare state. This is not a radical vision. It is simply the intersection of political and moral clarity.

Big piece on why Sanders went to Coachella and how his strategy for reaching out to young voters is drawing them back into the fight.

The movement ⬇️

Bernie Sanders is on the most ambitious political organizing tour in recent US history. His scheduled events w/AOC have drawn hundreds of thousands, and renewed hope in communities across the country. Now, Sanders is going off schedule to reach young voters who have the power to remake US politics!

Folsom, California. Population: 80,000 Folsom Lake Community College. Bernie Sanders/AOC/Fighting Oligarchy Tour crowd: 30,000. Sanders: “We can and WILL defeat Trump and the oligarchs.”

“A community is democratic only when the humblest and weakest person can enjoy the highest civil, economic, and social rights that the biggest and most powerful possess.” — A. Philip Randolph, Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters union president, convener of 1963 March for Jobs and Freedom, Socialist

Is Fighting Oligarchy popular? Is the line for tonight’s Bernie Sanders and AOC rally in Folsom, California, three mailed long? Yes, and yes.

“Smash All Imperialisms!” The Spanish Republic was declared 94 years ago this week. No Kings! No Empires! No Colonies!

In an Idaho County where Donald Trump received 72% of the vote on a Tuesday in 2024, this is the crowd that turned out for Bernie Sanders and AOC on a Monday night in 2025.

J.D. Vance is busy making Dan Quayle look like an entirely competent Vice President.

Big spike in support for the Finnish left. Social Democrats up 7% in local elections. Socialist Left Party up 3% The far right has collapsed.

20,000 more (including 4000 overflow) join Bernie Sanders, AOC and the fight against oligarchy— this time in Utah! This is an unstoppable movement!

“This country faces some very difficult challenges. The future of what happens to America is dependent upon your generation. You can turn away and ignore what goes on, but if you do, you do it at your own peril.” — Bernie Sanders introduces @clairo to young, wildly enthusiastic crowd at Coachella

“When Trump (and Musk) look out at this crowd… You are scaring the hell out of them. Because they know what we know: They are the 1% and we are the 99%.” — Bernie Sanders, speaking Saturday in LA to 36,000 people, largest crowd of his political career This is what Fighting Oligarchy looks like!

Crowd estimate for Bernie Sanders/Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez/Ro Khanna rally in LA is now 36,000.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is a billionaire who claims that working-class Americans don’t worry about turbulent stock and bond markets — or about the prospect that their retirement savings might evaporate. CORRECTION: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is a SHOCKINGLY OUT-OF-TOUCH billionaire.

They know they are screwing millions of Americans and don't care because the people with money will be fine.

Trumps Billionaire Treasury Secretary Knows Nothing About Real Americans: Scott Bessent: "Americans who have put away for years in their savings don't look at the day-to-day fluctuations of what's happening.” NBC: Retirees 'STUNNED’ at market turmoil… worried about their future quality of life.”

Donald Trump has embarked on a strategy that has the potential to crash the economy in ways that even Herbert Hoover could not have imagined. And, in so doing, Trump may very well crash the Republican Party in ways that even Herbert Hoover could not have imagined.

This is a great and thought-provoking article which brings up some fantastic points. I would differ a tad here (I'm not as hardened of an anti-globalist and would argue trading up from Blue to White Collar has many benefits and increased pay), but I agree with a whole lot of this. Smart & pragmatic.

Trump’s tariff tantrum is just that: a tantrum. It has nothing to do with sound economic policy and it will NOT renew US manufacturing. Smart, targeted tariffs can be quite good for workers in some sectors of the economy. But across-the-board tariffs invariably create misery for the working class.
