The thing that really helped me was that some writing was better than no writing, and to just write something, no matter how small. Didn't have to be a paragraph, didn't have to even be a sentence, could just be a couple of notes, progress is progress, even if its incremental. And I still struggle.

The truth is, in my experience of being trans, most people have one of 2 perceptions about trans folk - either it's a man in a dress, heavily planted in by media and the like, or they don't have one. So they can either roll with it or they get their mind fucking blown when I speak up as a trans man.

This is such a great point and isn’t made enough! We have a trans daughter but a mostly conservative extended family (and in-laws, to some degree), the exact people you’d expect would be awful on this issue. They have not been! I was prepared to do battle but we’ve been so happily surprised.
