Summing up @profsamperry.bsky.social and Philip Gorski's "Flag and the Cross": White Christian Nationalism is all about freedom, order, and violence. The freedom they mean is only for people like us — “us” being, above all, straight, white, native-born Christian men. So certainly not Rev. Barber.

Hey Christian Nationalists: don't mess with Texas

Yo @nickfish.me we’re out here fighting Christian Nationalism like Texans

Such a shame the media didn't have access to this step by step guide to what a Trump Administration would do with power before the election. [presses ear] I apologize, I'm being told it was published like a year beforehand and the media inexplicably believed Trump when he "disavowed" it.

If only everyone had read it BEFORE the election.

We're working on getting all of the sessions up ASAP, but you should definitely check out @theardenhart.bsky.social's great talk at #AACON2025 about confronting transphobia in secular spaces. Important topic from a great speaker — and person. So glad to have her.

The hell they can.

ICE tried to argue (with no real evidence) that a Venezuelan couple were members of Tren de Aragua and fucked it up so badly that the judge not only released them immediately but ordered that no one in Western Texas be deported under the Alien Enemies Act w/o being given 3 weeks’ notice.

NEW: In a SCATHING decision, Judge Briones of the Western District of Texas absolutely SAVAGED the government over this case, tearing to shreds ICE’s hearsay “evidence” that this husband and wife were in Tren de Aragua as “completely and wholly unsubstantiated” — and ordered their immediate release!

This is a flashing red warning light that corporate media is going to accede to fascism by explicitly bribing a strongman so the owners of their parent companies can get even richer.

for alito especially, racism is fake, anti-LGBT bigotry is fake, and the only real discrimination is against conservative christians who can't make public school curriculum by decree

AG Keith Ellison at American Atheists Convention in Minneapolis. Love it. 💜✊ #AACon25

Imagine you spent the last decade building a career around being wrong abt the gravest threats to speech in America. When this becomes clear, you could a) either admit it, or b) relabel the threats to say that you were right all along. You'll never guess which route Thomas Chatterton Williams took!

The harper's letter crowd is pretending the real threat to free speech is the same as the fake one they spent years panicking about. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Oh wow great @haleaziz.bsky.social piece on a 2018 case in which Trump’s ICE screwed up and erroneously deported a guy. AND THEY BROUGHT HIM BACK because why wouldn’t they? We’re in a much darker place now. Free link: www.nytimes.com/2025/04/15/u...

One of my Radical Leftist opinions is the government shouldn't be able to deprive anyone of life, liberty, or property without due process of law

Law enforcement wearing masks, again, even as one of the Trump administration conditions for universities is that no-one can wear a mask that disrupts their surveillance.

It is truly unbelievable that — in its latest letter to Harvard — the admin spends like half its time demanding an end to DEI, then goes on to say that *each department must literally do a DEI* to hire and admit a “critical mass” of conservative faculty and students. Wow

What we saw today was two jumped up thugs and their bootlicking sychophants laughing at the US Constitution, the supreme court, and the idea that anyone can stop them from doing anything they want www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Probably worth noting that authoritarian regimes around the world also class religious dissent and "blasphemy" as terrorism.

These two posts: * “We need to treat antifa and BLM like terrorist organizations,” said Joe Kent, Trump’s pick to lead counter-terrorism efforts. * Trump to Bukele (president of El Salvador): “Home-growns are next. The home-growns. You gotta build about five more places. It’s not big enough.” 1/

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences

The president told a Central American dictator to build five more massive slave labor camps to hold US citizens.

Denaturalization. Depriving people due process. Cooking up pretended offenses. Disappearing people to foreign governments. Our Founders knew what kind of government this is.

"these are sick people" Trump says, waving in the general direction of [left to right] JD Vance, Kristi Noem, Marco Rubio, Pam Bondi, and Stephen Miller Anyway, Nayib Bukele is an actual fascist and this is not an answer. The Hague is too good for this room

We are beyond a constitutional crisis at this point. Roberts #SCOTUS needs to clearly spell out how the Trump regime must put on a full court press to bring back Garcia. Otherwise, we are looking at a constitutional collapse in the United States.

Authoritarian lie upon lie. *We are talking about a non-criminal (who is likely representative of many others), not a terrorist *Trump admin says that nothing they can they can do, El Salvador is a sovereign country *President of El Salvador says nothing he can do, can't violate US laws

Is the Supreme Court fine with the fact that the Trump admin just keeps lying about what its ruling said?

The Party of Due Process™

These, our ancient liberties under attack.

The president is conducting a press event with the primary purpose of flouting the decisions of the courts and the letter and spirit of U.S. law. It is a press event to celebrate the Constitutional crisis and serial violation of human rights he has set in motion.

These people have to be prosecuted for crimes against humanity. It's that simple.

I want them all unmasked. I want Noem, Homan, and Miller to someday be tried for their crimes against humanity. Ditto for the ICE agents and other officers who abuse innocent tourists, college students, and refugees When all this is over, I want justice. My column www.inquirer.com/opinion/comm...

Solicitor General D. John Sauer to the Supreme Court:

No one thinks *Miller* believes they're there mistakenly, the problem is that he holds views about legality that are antithetical to the Constitution. What an odious guy.

Stephen Miller is a liar and a propagandist and while there is clear value in understanding what he's saying as a means of understanding what the administration is doing, not a single fact out of his mouth can be trusted.

Oh?

You don’t have to be particularly sharp to decipher the code here. But if you need someone to say it, this is a major technology company and a sizable defense and intelligence contractor publicly declaring, with only the thinnest patina of deniability, that its cause is white nationalism.
