You’ve missed nothing.

I was going to suggest Anna Karenina myself as I live that book, but I only found out recently that Tolstoy was possibly influenced by Middlemarch in the writing of it.

I’m only a little way in but already pleasantly surprised by the humour.

I’m finding the first part of that true so far, but since so little of our lives demands patience currently I’m enjoying that aspect.

😂 literally did this today!

I think those concerns are precisely what put me off for so long Rosa. And the recognition of them are what made me pick it up finally - as a ‘nose tweak’ to the pace of the world we live in. 😊

I listened to that episode, but haven’t got around to reading the book yet.

Reading these comments, why did I wait so long? It has to displace Bleak House, Emma, and Huck Finn to reach the summit of the classics for me. I have another list for more contemporary novels. 😊

Wow, naming (or almost) your daughter after Dorothea is quite some endorsement. 😊

Big call. Only the 21st best according to the Guardian in 2015.

I am officially (at 56) a grown-up.

I pretty much read them as they came out, and haven’t been back to any of them, so my favourite probably says more about me and who I was at the time of reading, but if pushed I would say Moon Palace.

You’re an amazing teacher, and there is no more important job. You change kids’ futures every day for the better.

I look forward to it 🤣

I listened to this episode in the car today, and didn’t want to arrive at my destination - quite wonderful. I can’t wait to read the book. Thank you Lauren.

Brilliant 😂. I’ve literally just this second finished the chapter where they travel there, reassured by the presence on their flight of two bishops ‘not to mention the priests and nuns’. 🤣

Oh excellent choice. I don’t know if I have a favourite (maybe Bugsy Malone for sentimental reasons) but that’s definitely up there. 😊

Wow, thanks for posting this Lev. I knew nothing about this site, it’s incredible. What wonderfully amazing birds. My local cuckoo here in the Alps is obviously away at the moment - I’d love to know where - but s/he, they always return within the next couple of weeks or so.

Unconsummated narrative dry humping is just so spot on; the best description of all that ‘let’s drag the fuck out of this story with endless plot twists and pointless cliffhangers so that we can go on selling advertising’ that I’ve ever read. Chapeau 🎩

Excellent, I’ll have a go at hunting them out. Thank you.

I read The Shooting Party a year or so ago, and loved it. Should I have a look at any of her other work?

This is a fascinating insight into the (your) writing/editing process. Thank you for sharing Ellie.
