🚲MAJOR DISRUPTION🚲 Capital City/Upfield Trail near Royal Park - closures from now until 17th April @merri-bekbug.bsky.social i found out after calling @cityofmelbourne.bsky.social but there's no info online, I'm not sure of the extent or safe detours

Balloon suspiciously hiding in the trees over Royal Parade

Billie Samuel was the first woman to cycle from Melbourne to Sydney, Australia. On her return journey, she broke the women's world record for the fastest ride from Sydney to Melbourne. Happy #BicycleBirthday, Billie! March 24 (1907-1995)

From last month (but i missed it), an interesting and important discussion #Melbourne www.3cr.org.au/yarrabug/epi...

Brunswick Junior Clinic on a perfect autumn morning, bliss!

Ride2School and instrumental music day, yessss

Wow, an amazing Ride2School day this morning! Big thanks to Bicycle Network and the Yarra council. The kids and parents were really excited. I'm doing a 'hands up' count this arvo, expecting high numbers of riders. Once we know how many kids are *able* to ride, we can aim for that amount every day

Excited about Ride2School day this Friday 🚲🚲🚲! Lots of events at my kid's school, in collab with Bicycle Network. Hoping plenty of students and parents are inspired to ride/walk and realise how good it is!

Shout-out to Bicycle Network for the excellent bike parking at the Melbourne GP!

Sydney road Street party setup and takeover. No through traffic, no parking, going to be a disaster for local businesses!

Cities globally have embraced 30 km/h speeds—yet in Victoria, Australia, they are not widespread. Our new study, published in Cities & Health, delves into the challenges and opportunities of implementation of 30 km/h speed zones. Lens article: lens.monash.edu/2025/02/17/1...

Excited that I set the wheels in motion for this over a year ago and now it is actually happening next week.

Riding to Preston market, up St Georges road. All bike paths should be this wide #melbourne #bike

If you missed yesterdays @yarrabike.bsky.social Radio Show on 3CR the you can now listen in to the podcast.Dr Lauren Pearson joined us to discuss the Petal Project report and what is stoping young women in Melbourne from using their bicycles to get around. www.3cr.org.au/yarrabug/epi...

I bought a $50 bike for those times when you need to lock it somewhere for a few days (i.e hirecar place), but already really attached to it! A classic Malvern Star. Judging by the pressed metal chain rings it's likely lower-end but it still rides beautifully, and looks 😍. Gonna need a crappier bike

Google map cycling directions do not use the Upfield bike path. Annoying for people who know where to go (and, say, want to check trip times), dangerous for inexperienced riders or those new to the area.

Starting the year with a 25km schlep home from a friend's NYE party. Not too hard with an ebike, I enjoyed it, got home feeling refreshed, but maybe a bit far to ride for most people as a form of mass transportation. Melbourne is quite big at times... #bikemelbourne

From the new Road Safety Action Plan: "Responding to keen interest from local governments and their communities, we’ll consider proposals for speed limit reductions in areas with significant interface between pedestrians and bicyclists and vehicles." 30km/h please! www.vic.gov.au/sites/defaul...

This is why I'm a fan of rego being calculated on weight, width, length, engine kW, maximum speed, emissions, and finally, danger to pedestrians at 30kmh. A Kia Picanto should not cost the same as a BMW X9. Means test it, but only on personal use. Commercial vehicles have no deductions.

Ocky strap, essential equipment for train/ride trips (to Beaumaris for fossil hunting 🦖) #bikemelbourne

Catching the punt from Port Melbourne to Spotswood, on our way to Williamstown from Brunswick. A 17km/1hr trip each way for a family picnic, quite long but do-able with an ebike and good bike lanes (or, you know, whatever the frick counts for bike infrastructure on Lorimer st)

I'm a big fan of the front bike crate, I've opted for the Basil 50L. Stopped at Mediterranean Wholesalers and bought too much delish food? No plastic bag, box, straight to the crate.

Thought this was about Melbourne's planning laws that mostly allow medium density on high-car-traffic streets, but it's Sydney resident, agreeing with a Californian, agreeing with a Toronto resident. Clearly a universal issue

60km... "bike lane" (paint). This should be illegal.

Announcing ... Critical Mass Yarra 5.30pm, Fri 31 Jan 2025, State Library, CBD Riding through our traditional home grounds of Fitzroy, Collingwood & Richmond Our safe, well-used protected bike lanes are at risk criticalmass.melbourne

This lane in Brunswick has been planted with natives, beautiful #melbourne (also... a street with no cars, so nice)
