Great piece about #EconomicAbuse on @itvnews.bsky.social Good Morning Britain - also featuring my book!

I’ve climbed to the first and second highest points of the Cotswolds this weekend. Here’s why: www.justgiving.com/page/nicola-...

And 127 miles walked in February too! Walking in a snowy #NYC and enjoying the snowdrops at home. Running total: 254 miles. #Walk1000Miles #Walk2000Miles

The cost of inaction is far greater than the cost of scrapping the two-child benefit cap. Not only will it help lift children out of poverty but it will benefit mothers whose access to income is restricted by their partner many of whom rely on it #EconomicAbuse www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

In awe of the determination of the @waspicampaign.bsky.social women who suffered financial hardship and had to rethink retirement plans after not being informed of changes to the increase in the state pension age. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A warm welcome to Balthazar!

The deadline to join UN Women UK as a digital participant at the 69th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) has been extended until midday tomorrow (24 Feb). 2025 marks 30 years since the landmark Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action to achieve gender equality.

Fantastic to see the Council of Australian Life Insurers (CALI) publishing best practice guidance on family and domestic violence, setting out the critical need for life insurers to put the needs of victim-survivors at the centre of their approach 🇦🇺

It’s been a while since I got the first train of the morning into London. So early in fact that I had to bring my own tea! A packed day ahead meeting lots of my favourite people.

If your partner has taken out loans or credit cards in your name without your consent, leaving you responsible for debt, this is a form of economic abuse. Learn more about coerced debt and the support available 🔽

We really need to get beyond statements like ‘[we] do not believe there to be an ongoing risk to the public’ and ‘it’s just so shocking that something like this could happen here.’ This man is a threat to all women. Something like this happens somewhere every 3 days. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I’ve taken a few planes this week, including one to Michigan to enjoy lunch with Professor Adrienne Adams. Our passion to see #EconomicJustice for victim-survivors remains as strong as ever and that book we’ve been talking about for 9 years now? It will happen! Sunset over NYC on the return journey.

A full circle moment this week meeting up with the women who inspired SEA’s founding Economic Justice Project following my @churchillfship.bsky.social 2016 travels to the US #CoercedDebt #EconomicAbuse #GlobalMovement

A catch up with one of the smartest women I know. Sonya Passi set up FreeFrom around the same time I established SEA. So lucky to have enjoyed her friendship along the way. What’s more our paths cross in the best places #LosAngeles #CapeTown #Oxford #Geneva #NewYork #FounderFriends #EconomicAbuse

In honour of #NationalPizzaPieDay a visit to Bleecker Street Pizza - one of the top 3 pizzerias in NYC according to Trip Advisor 🍕

Excited to be heading back to New York for work nearly nine years after I visited for my 2016 @churchillfship.bsky.social travels. So much has changed! This time I’m sharing best practice as well as learning about it #EconomicAbuse #GlobalMovement 🇺🇸

This week those serving a 12 month+ sentence for controlling or coercive behaviour came under multi-agency public protection arrangements. The police, probation and other agencies are now legally required to share info about offenders who are a risk to others. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Feeling energised following a great day of discussion at the Women’s Aid Public Policy conference yesterday focused on the effective design and delivery of a new #VAWG strategy. I also got to catch up with some of my favourite women, including @jessphillipsmp.bsky.social

On 13 Feb (1700 GMT) we have the first #JoiningTheDots conversation of series 4 - geopolitical change & what this means for our work on ending violence against women Join #CynthiaEnlow and @proflizkelly.bsky.social (and me) as we think big together! #VAWG Register here: cwasu.org/session-one-...

127 miles in the first month of 2025. New boots for the new year! Walking in the cold and snow at home, and the sunshine of India #Walk1000Miles #Walk2000Miles #NotABadStart

Could not agree more with the National Audit Office: a coordinated, whole-system response is needed to address #VAWG. @jessphillipsmp.bsky.social has been saying this for some time, so am hopeful we will see a transformational new strategy which also addresses #EconomicSafety in the spring.

It’s the year of the snake (that’s me) which symbolises wisdom, intuition and transformation #ChineseNewYear2025

The lifting of restrictions on journalists and legal bloggers reporting on family court cases is an important step toward greater transparency and accountability. This change supports justice for survivors and scrutiny of the system: www.theguardian.com/law/2025/jan... #FamilyJustice #Transparency

New year, new job? We're excited to now be recruiting for a Campaigns and Influencing Manager, to drive forward Agenda's mission and secure change for women and girls with unmet needs. Find out more: https://buff.ly/4hzkrPC

Great campaign by @rightsofwomen.bsky.social highlighting how marital status impacts the rights of separating couples - including home, belongings, and finances. To help change the law, and protect women who are not married, but cohabiting, check out the link below #EconomicSafety

It’s 6 years since the government published the draft Domestic Abuse Bill which named and defined #EconomicAbuse for the first time. Love that this milestone was captured in a pic taken by Georgia - SEA’s first Comms Manager. I was very much in a happy place!

Word of the day is ‘catch-fart’ (17th century: an obsequious individual who will always follow the political wind.

See. Say. Signpost. The three steps to having a difficult conversation with someone who may be facing suicidal thoughts. Great online training from the Zero Suicide Alliance via @durhamuniversity.bsky.social zerosuicidealliance.com

Channel 4 News has covered the evolving link between domestic abuse and suicide, with a growing number of families refusing to accept that a victim’s decision to end their lives closes the route to justice. www.channel4.com/news/kiena-d...

Working solo doesn’t mean working alone.

Thanks to Jeremy Vine for having me on BBC Radio 2 with Harriet Wistrich to discuss the Kiena Dawes case. Yesterday’s verdict shows how often mental health is weaponised to excuse abuse. I stand with families seeking justice. Abuse is the root cause. Listen back from 12:14:45 ⬇️

There is already 25 minutes more daylight than the shortest day and by the end of this week it will be around 45 minutes.

Whilst the verdict in the tragic death of Kiena Dawes is disappointing, getting to this point is no small achievement for Kiena’s family, the police and the prosecution. Each of these moments and these women forge a path for the next. Change will come. Sending love to all who loved Kiena.

That financial settlements may be made ‘behind closed doors’ is concerning in cases of domestic abuse. The drive for transparency in the family courts is to ensure that the parties involved remain protected #EconomicAbuse

It’s 6 months since the International Finance Corporation (IFC) launched the Empower Finance Alliance, uniting pioneering financial institutions from countries in Asia and the Pacific to address the economic impacts of #GenderBasedViolence. Excited to continue my role as Expert Advisor into 2025!

Just in from mammoth interview session to two bits of news. One that a DV perp got locked up because of something I did and that a vulnerable constituent had a a massive wrongful debt written off after our intervention. This is why I came to politics, this is why I'll just keep cracking on.

125 miles in December on home turf and in Egypt. Shame I can’t add the camel riding and the snorkelling! Not as many as I’d have liked due to the rain and storms. Total of 1,856 miles in 2024. #Walk1000Miles ☑️ #Walk1500Miles ☑️ #Walk2000Miles in 2025!

Great journalism by @theguardian.com and essential work by @femicidecensus.bsky.social remembering and counting the 80 women killed by men in the UK in 2024. My thoughts with their loved ones 💔 www.theguardian.com/uk-news/ng-i...

As a charity founder you work hard. Julie and Carole, alongside the other @killedwomennw.bsky.social founders, work even harder - at a job they don’t want to do. I can’t think of women more deserving of this recognition #NewYearsHonours www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Carol and Julie two bereaved campaigning mothers who (with others) founded @killedwomennw.bsky.social have been honoured in the new year's list and I can think of few more deserving. Proud to know them.

9 years since #CoerciveControl including #EconomicAbuse through restriction, exploitation & sabotage was criminalised. We see economically controlling behaviours in 6/10 successfully prosecuted cases but know victim-survivors don’t receive justice 🧵 survivingeconomicabuse.org/wp-content/u...
