Not a typical country fan speaking, but Martina McBride’s Independence Day has an anthem quality that uniquely fits this moment for women in America.

Been thinking a lot lately about my Italian ancestors who fled Mussolini (oh, no reason in particular, why do you ask?) Anyway, looking for historical fiction and non-fiction about Italians who fled to America and had to give up their citizenship to do so. Anyone have recs?

Newsweek is so happy to say terrible things about Philly that I’m convinced someone there was brutally dumped by a Delco girl.

Happy V-Day from this lifelong Valentine. Get in some good trouble today. ❤️💌

One of my fourth graders asked a friend if he and his family wanted to live at his house since they are scared of the cold men coming to their house. The cold men are ICE. Kids may not understand it all right now, but they are listening.

Damning.

As a longtime fan of @bookshop-org.bsky.social I was really pleased to see this news: www.nytimes.com/2025/01/28/b... 🖋️📚💙 📚🪐 📚💙 #books #bookstores #indie

I don’t know what’s exactly happening but in the last few months I’m getting tons of fan mail for my mg book that came out right before the pandemic. I’m just so grateful for each and every email and for the kids who are finding it now. (1)

And the fireworks are going off here. The city is gonna be one big party again. 💚 #eagles

Hard week, but here in Philly right now - there’s a lot of joy. Take the joy when you can. #eagles #philly #philadelphia

Today is a brutally cold day both in weather and other foregone conclusions. I’m staying inside with my nose in a book. 2666 by Roberto Bolano (translated by Natasha Wimmer). What are you reading?
