Getting Started

Thanks to Peter Montoro for mentioning my Jude collation and my find_variation script in his ETC blog post. If you work with TEI collations, the script can be very useful. evangelicaltextualcriticism.blogspot.com/2025/02/reso...

Small-in-the-grand-scheme-of-things but exciting news: the open-cbgm library has just had its first major update to v2.0: github.com/jjmccollum/o.... In addition to a snazzy new logo, this release adds new optimizations and options to the command-line utility (github.com/jjmccollum/o...). (1/4)

I finally submitted my application for a PhD program at the University of Birmingham. Looking forward to this next chapter of my life, academically speaking. I’ve proposed to study the catena to Jude and 1-2 Peter.

I asked Grok: I’d like to see a scribe copying the first few lines of the Gospel of John where you have an Illuminated head piece with the kephalion reading ΚΑΤΑ ΙΩΑΝΝΗΝ. And all I got was Lord of the Rings and some weird icon of John night light 😂😂 PD. I do kind of want this night light though. 😊

A διάκονος φόβου? φόβου or φοβοῦ? What if Paul does not command the Roman Christians to “Fear!” in Romans 13:4, but rather calls the State a διάκονος φόβου, where “servant” is elided? Interesting note: I cannot find any instance in LXX or NT of a positive imperative to “fear” (φοβοῦ) anyone but God.

Advice needed. If you were going to include a version of the TR in a collation, is Scrivener’s 1881 version a good choice, or as good as any? #NTTC
