New book about Canadian wool coming soon - we're excited about this one!

Btw we're already at ✨50%✨ of our pre-orders goal! Help us get over the line to fully financing production of THE TRUE COST OF WOOL, by @longwayhomestead.bsky.social πŸ‘‰ shop.ninetenpublications.ca/products/the...

I've gone back and forth over writing this post. Because a trade war between the U.S. and Canada isn't about the relationship we have with our readers, whom we value and appreciate no matter where they live. But the landscape in which Canadian small businesses operate has changed tremendously.

A few of the great Canadian publishers EBB regularly stocks: @arsenalpulp.bsky.social @mcgillqueensup.bsky.social @coachhousebooks.bsky.social @biblioasis.bsky.social Douglas and McIntyre @houseofanansi.bsky.social @dundurnpress.bsky.social Our point of sale software is Canadian. Buy Canadian.

BTW we're now just over 50% of the way to our goal for pre-orders to finance production of the book. I love how much people appreciate @longwayhomestead.bsky.social's work, and I'm grateful to them for ordering early!

Canadian book from a Canadian small press about Canadian wool production! I've learned a bit about Canadian yarn production thanks to @kwknittersguild.bsky.social speakers, but the book offers a deeper dive. Should be fascinating! #knitsky #Canadian #howitsmade

We're already over 25% of the way to our pre-orders goal for THE TRUE COST OF WOOL, by @longwayhomestead.bsky.social, coming in May πŸŽ‰ Get 10% off early-bird pre-orders for a limited time πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Reaching our goal will cover the entire cost of printing the book here in Canada on 100% recycled paper πŸ™πŸ“„πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Answers in here for some questions we've been asked recently, about tariffs, book prices, and more πŸ‘‡

I've obviously been following news reports about tariffs, but realized I see little discussion about specific, direct impacts. So I figured I'd get specific and direct. For real, ask me anything. No small business owner I've spoken with has any idea what will happen, or when, or how bad it will be.

NEW for pre-order: Author @longwayhomestead.bsky.social's deep-dive into the supply chain of Canadian wool, from sheep to yarn πŸ“šπŸ’™ With the growing movement to buy Canadian πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ we're moving release of this book up to the spring, from the fall. Pre-orders help our tiny press finance book production πŸ™

Oh my goodness! This book just arrived at my house all the way from Canada. It looks AMAZING! Full of possibilities and starting points and reflections on creativity and things I want to have a go at right this minute. Why do I have work to do? What can't I just quilt all day?? #Craftsky #Quiltsky

A quilter bought @3rdstoryworkshop.bsky.social's book and came to have it signed, and said to me, "I flipped it over and it's made from recycled paper! That means so much to me!" And I was all, "It means so much to ME." It was a lovely moment, and I love that makers care about how things are made ❀️

A bit about this book from my personal perspective 🧡 Many months ago I wanted to commission a book about a fabric craft to flesh out our tiny roster of books that were, so far, focused on fibre and fibre craft.

It's QUILTING release day! Huge congratulations to author @3rdstoryworkshop.bsky.social on this magnificent exploration of creativity, experimentation and quilting technique. Here's a peek at the quilts featured in the book. Grab a copy at your fave πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ bookstore or LQS, or borrow from your library ❀️

Look what arrived in the mail this week! Congratulations @ninetenpub.bsky.social and @3rdstoryworkshop.bsky.social on the beautiful book! #quilting #booksky

How do we define β€œmade in Canada” - in the context of wool yarn? Is it β€œmade” if it was dyed here? How about if it was only spun here but the growing of the wool - washing & carding happened elsewhere? How much of the actual manufacturing has to be done here to be branded as β€œmade in Canada”?
