Thank you for circling back! As of a few days ago, Julie had everything she needed to list for pre-order, but I don't actually have an account with her to see if it's up and running. Please check with her, and thank you, again, for your enthusiasm for the book!

With production costs covered, Nine Ten earns profit from any book sold by Anna, by booksellers and LYSes, and purchased by libraries. And of course, the book will be on shelves across Canada in late May! shop.ninetenpublications.ca/products/the...

Any way you buy the book supports our press, the author, and the Canadian book industry. Anna earns royalties from Nine Ten on any book sold by Nine Ten, by booksellers and LYSes, and purchased by libraries.

Author @longwayhomestead.bsky.social has now listed ✍️ signed copies ✍️ of the book for pre-order in her shop: www.longwayhomestead.com/books/pre-or... In Canada, you can pre-order the book from any bookstore or your LYS, and you can request that your library add the book to their collection.

Nine Ten is a one-woman show supported by many freelancers who are talented and amazing and whom we pay fair rates. For our press to make it, I need to start getting paid, too. Our early-bird pre-order discount of 10% remains in effect until 7:00 PM Pacific Time today.

As a startup press, we do not include paying ourselves in our budgeting for our books. This is, certainly for worse and not for better, very common in the first few years of a new small business in any sector.

We think so!

They don't help micro or startup presses, though, which creates a whole situation for industry viability and longevity.

Oh, perfect. I've just emailed her, and if I can keep my head screwed on tightly enough, once I hear from her I'll pop back over here to let you know about pre-orders!

Julie Asselin may take pre-orders! Moving this book from fall up to spring – I'm a bit of a headless chicken. I'll reach out to her to update her of the plan (I can't believe I didn't do this already!!).

Buying local has always been an excellent way to support small businesses. Head to your local bookstore or library this week, eh? Support an artisan in your community who creates items that make you smile. Take a cleansing breath and make something with your hands. And, as always, read a good book.

To our American friends and readers: We ❀️ you. It doesn't make me happy that buying our books will cost you more than it should. As we brace for an economic downturn here in Canada I know you're bracing for the same, south of the border. It will be painful for all of us, and I wish it weren't so.

Our books have always been Canadian-made. And while I hope this trade war fizzles before it really takes hold, it's how we will continue to operate no matter what.

We did all of that without ever considering that our nation would come under threat from our closest neighbour and friend. Today it feels as if the world might be shifting on its axis, but I am mildly comforted that I will not need to change anything I do at Nine Ten.

And we committed to having our books printed in Canada on Canadian-made 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper because, though it's wildly expensive to do so, it supports our domestic industry while minimizing the negative environmental impact of our books and supporting greener options.

We committed to working as much as possible with Canadian editorial and production professionals to support their ability to make a living here at home.

We founded Nine Ten because there was no niche press operating in Canada publishing books exclusively about crafts and creativity and all the related topics. From the start, we committed to working with Canadian authors to ensure Canadian voices are a part of these conversations.

I print our offset, full-colour books at Friesens, and absolutely adore working with them. As I start to also make lower-production-cost smaller, black-and-white books, we'll have those digital printed at a shop called Rapido, in QuΓ©bec, which incentivizes small runs and frequent reprinting.

Hemlock is amazing! We print ours in Manitoba, but Hemlock is top-notch.

Something I love about crowdfunding our full-colour books is how interested backers are in how the books are made. I hope you do publish this!
