👏 Great news! 🇫🇷 Today French MPs voted to #BanPFAS from consumer products like clothing and cosmetics. Over 140,000 citizens called on their MPs to back the ban & this is a huge win for the protection of people’s health & environment in France. More in our news story: buff.ly/4bb9Vfb

I escaped poverty because I am a scientist. And I am a scientist because of the National Science Foundation. A 🧵:

The immense talent, educational prowess, and extensive experience of the federal employees facing layoffs is really crazy. Having such credentials typically involves years of dedicated effort. A federal job is extremely competition. Sad about these individuals and their families.

My first major federal grant that really launched my career and reputation was an NIH R01. This special NIEHS Superfund program call was created in 2020 in trying to move the need in solving #PFAS problems. I will remain forever grateful to NIH/NIEHS & the PM & staff for dedicating their lives.

Everything is so chaotic right now because every single policy decision or debate that has occurred over the past 130 years is suddenly being relitigated--the entirety of settled US laws & procedures are threatened--all at once.

Some of my friends think that I am overreacting but honestly everything is at stake. Every dictatorship stays in power by crippling the education systems, especially, higher ed.

📣Hey journalists who want to cover the 3400 federal employees who just got fired📣 I’m developing a list of folks who were fired and who are down for interviews, primarily trails, river rangers and some folks who did collateral fire duties as needed (as of right now). DM me if you need sources!

Women in STEM are having their work and bios removed from government websites. One woman started womeninstemus.blogspot.com?m=1 to document these “lost works” for future generations. They are taking submissions! Please share #womeninstem

Expanding my consulting services this year, I'm offering personalized coaching for faculty candidates. To accommodate the demand, these services are offered as paid sessions. If interested, feel free to DM me to get assistance in navigating the interview process effectively.

So sorry for everyone in Southern California. This wildfire distasteful is horrible. Hope it stops soon.

Happy New Year Everyone! 15 years ago today, I left my home in Bangladesh for a new chapter in the USA. This transformative journey has tested my personal and professional boundaries, presenting challenges that have ultimately led to profound growth and fulfillment. #Gratitude #AichLENS

RP PLS! Iʻm hiring 3 postdocs at U Hawaiʻi to study yeast diversity and evolution, marine fungi, and the genomics of microbiomes in experimental foodwebs. All of these projects have existing datasets and LATITUDE to pursue individual interests and "blue sky" ideas www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/5d7u4...

Thankful for this new grant from the USEPA to work on #PFAS monitoring and remediation. engineering.unl.edu/news/241105/...

#PFAS in band-aids and bandages lead to a class action lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson! It is only the tip of the iceberg -many more to come after USEPA’s new #PFAS regulations. news.bloomberglaw.com/environment-...

I got the third type of photos!

Congratulations #AichLENS member Md. Arafat Ali on winning the First Place in lightning talk competition! Becoming a Pro in giving short pitch!

Congratulations to #AichLENS member Anika Azme for being selected as a Finalist at UNL’s 2024 Student Research Days Slam! Anika is an exemplary grad student & future leader in Environmental Engineering! it has been incredible experience working with her & see her grow!

Woke up this morning with the news of acceptance of my 50th journal article. Not that the number is the only metric that matters, but reaching a milestone like this feels good. Also, this is the first paper of year 2024! Thanks to my mentors, lab members, & collaborators.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Madeleine Dean reintroduced legislation on Feb. 1 in the House and Senate to make it easier for individuals to sue forever chemical makers over PFAS exposure. bit.ly/48dU1xK

I have posted on LinkedIn a recipe for giving an effective research seminar for on-campus faculty candidate interviews. This might be of help for current/future faculty candidates. @AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter #academicsucces #AcademicSupport t.co/uyaOcBdtIV

With #ForeverChemical and #PFAS being added to the Oxford English Dictionary it seems apt to look back to a few months ago, when the RSC called for the UK Government to overhaul its drinking water standards rsc.li/clean-up-pfas

Work Buddies!

As we close down the official year - I feel #blessed - moved to a new place to be with my wife & grown our family with new cat/dog! Got to spend time with parents, brother, in-laws. Setup a new lab with support from amazing colleagues & amazing new students who joined my lab.

Eli turns 11 today! He is our first dog and the most precious. Eli is the reason we got into the bad habit of adopting so many. Eli has been the kindest oldest brother for all of our fosters & foster fails. He spoiled us with his love and play, & help us survive. God bless Dogs!

Honored to be named 'Dougherty Water for Food Global Institute Faculty Fellow' & enter a highly collaborative & distinguished community of scholars, researchers, innovators, & implementers to ensure water & food security. Thx @waterforfood for the honor. waterforfood.nebraska.edu

Our foster cat: Choton!

Amazing sunsets of Nebraska

Today was a good day! Blessed.

Fall color in our backyard!

Woke up with the news of a paper rejection which we didn’t expect. My first thought was about my PhD student & instead of forwarding the email, I called him up to discuss what happened. He didn’t deserve a forwarded email after 2 years of hard work. Now we grieve & move on.

Excited to announce that our research efforts have been recognized with the 2022-2023 Research Excellence Award by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering. It was great celebrating with other engineering colleagues. Thank you #UNLCollegeofEngineering for this honor. #AichLENS #PFAS
