Some indie + self-pub + underrated Black SFF books for your Black History month tbr! #booksky

On Nina Simone's birthday, I offer you her gorgeous version of David Bowie's 1957 love ballad, "Wild Is the Wind": www.youtube.com/watch?v=QznS...

A friend just reported he's been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I am not here for your fucking jokes about Boomers. If you're lucky you too will get old.

I love getting Spanish language ads for Halloween costumes in February. Algorithms, don't ever change.

Trump said in an interview with Elon Musk that he wouldn't touch Medicaid. Hours later he endorsed a GOP plan that could slash the program. (Business Insider) Main Link | memeorandum Permalink

Look! A list with me on it! winteriscoming.net/celebrate-bl... (also some other Major Dudes)

@fantasticcosmic.bsky.social, I offer you my word on a wing.

This is the Playwrights’ Center, which first brought me out from NY to Minneapolis on a writing fellowship. It was where I taught, learned, developed work and had a great time for years. I’m so proud of them for holding the line on DEI, despite the risk. Donating some $$ right now!

@billcorbett.bsky.social Searched you due to outright adoration of your take on trump's "He who saves his Country does not violate any Law" and then learned you are Crow T. Robot too! Bonus love!

Hilariously, an account which approached me on DMs and asked where I was from has now blocked me! @maxwelldavidd or sumpn like that. Seems to have taken offense when I referred them to my Wikipedia article for that info.

Throwing darts in my lovers' eyes....

Episode 10 of SoundPages is up, featuring #JackStrawWriter Catherine DeNardo in conversation with #curator @nisishawl.bsky.social. Listen at jackstraw.org/podcasts/soundpages/ or #WhereverYouGetYourPodcasts! #JackStrawWriters #JackStrawWriters2024 #Podcast

@levarburton.bsky.social I hear your xwitter account has been hacked. Meanwhile, you could post more here maybe?

You know a book is good when you find yourself just standing reading in the middle of your bathroom because you couldn't put it down long enough to brush your teeth for bed (in this case @nisishawl.bsky.social 's latest #sci-fi, Making Amends). #booksky #readabook #bookrec

Another thrilling episode of "Why does everything hurt more today and how come yesterday's meds are still sitting in this dish for me to take?"

@theresepieczynski.bsky.social Yay! You're here, with your warmth and piercing wit! Welcome--and sorry I don't have any starter packs for you to fatten up your "Following" feed, but feel free to peruse my profile's follows and poach.

@tomdoyle.bsky.social Very Western Michigan, yes! And coolio, too!

Most important "related nonfiction" I ever edited is the Publishing Taught Me antho with enthralling essays by @dianapho.bsky.social @kanishkt.bsky.social @deuceofgears.bsky.social et al. Should win a Hugo! Brilliant co-editing from @witchywonderer.bsky.social and @somtoihezue.bsky.social too.

When I was growing up it was with the rule there were only 2 schools that would train Black doctors Howard and Meharry. I was also told a B would eliminate me from medical school

Only 2 white doctors accepted Black patients in my Midwestern hometown, population 100,000. When I was a kid. Only 2. How's that not supposed to have a lasting impact? Must have been at least 5000 of us.

And eligible for Best Related Work is the Publishing Taught Me Anthology; and the brilliant and insightful essays by BIPOC authors & editors compiled in it. This anthology was edited by @nisishawl.bsky.social, @witchywonderer.bsky.social, and myself. Please find the essays in thread below:

tl;dr version: Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat was 100% intentional and a culmination of extensive civil rights theory that she had studied, being put into practice

I have warm and humorous memories of my family running laps in Costco to get free samples. Didn’t matter what the samples were for b/c my family was lining up for that shit. Gonna get a membership this weekend.
