Recently, the @easystats.bsky.social team (a mix of academics and former academics) discussed the challenges faced by those transitioning from #psychology #academia to data-related jobs, as well as some advantages they have that they might not be aware of. Here's what we came up with 🧵: 1/

Excited to see this now out in the world! We identify a computational basis for how persistent underconfidence is maintained in the face of intact performance, finding that it is grounded in impaired updating of global self-beliefs from local metacognition www.nature.com/articles/s41... 1/N

Recently proposed U.S. policies including cuts to NIH funding, keyword censorship of grants, withdrawal of information from the public, and mass layoffs of employees in federal agencies threaten the integrity of science and well-being of people throughout the world.

Hey if anyone is considering backing up any datasets for some reason today, the Open Science Framework has free storage up to 5G/private repository, and up to 50G/public repository. (The OSF is run by a 501c3 (Center for Open Science), so if you do this you might also consider making a donation.)

From a journalist friend: Just spreading the word. The CDC is purging data, so people should archive their favorite CDC datasets today, namely ones around race/ethnic diversity, LGBTQ, and reproductive health. Also health data involving climate. The youth risk behavior survey has already gone down.

Good scheme by @elife.bsky.social Classification is always tricky but sharing this info seems very valuable (especially together with the reviewer evals)

OMG. A standalone, GitHub-supported, seriously upgraded version of SPM is coming to town. Can’t wait!

Discover the #TISP Dataset now out in #ScientificData! The open access dataset includes responses from 71,922 people in 68 countries on their perceptions of science, science communication, and climate change attitudes. 🌍🧵 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

As an exercise in keeping some positivity, here are some things that happened this week: - a lab member got an interview for a prestigious fellowship - a lab member won a different great fellowship - a manuscript passed desk in a fab journal - we figured out how to respond to a tough R&R for a RR

2025 is starting with a blast in so many places. On a side note, I have not heard about the situation in #Serbia until today. So yay BlueSky!

informal announcement: we'll be doing a *cluster* hire of faculty in theoretical/computational neuroscience in the coming year(s). a senior/mid-career person could be selected to bring in 2-3 more ppl of their choosing (subject to committee approval), or we could otherwise hire together a group 1/

Holly Molly. This is escalating very quickly. Authoritarian playbook in full speed.

1/5. I just finished re-reading King's "The Role of the Behavioral Scientist in the Civil Rights Movement"--a speech he gave at the American Psychological Association in 1967. I revisit this speech every few years; much of it remains relevant. A few notable sections... www.apa.org/topics/equit...

If you/ your students are interviewing for PhD psych programs in US (especially social psych), check out the resource page on my website. There are guides prepped by grad students + questions to ask faculty etc. Good luck! www.pbandjlab.com/resources

Yay for some areas making progress for a more responsible approach to how we do our science! I hope more and more people will join in developing a coherent framework. Here’s our modest attempt to facilitate the discussion journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol...

Excited to share this perspective with @yaelniv.bsky.social about how schemas might be learned and instantiated via reinforcement learning, latent cause inference, and dimensionality reduction, and what's the medial prefrontal cortex might be doing for all of these www.nature.com/articles/s41...

With 17 days to go until the US takeover by the new Trump (or Musk?) administration, I thought it might be worthwhile to share a number of recent papers published by our team that counter arguments that have been leveled against misinformation research. 1/n

🚨 New Paper alert! 🚨 Koch, Dotsch, Imhoff, Unkelbach, & @hansalves.bsky.social (2025). Ideological beliefs as cues to exploitation-exploration [email protected] . https://buff.ly/4gGQsoW This paper has a long story to it. Sorry, but I will not spare you.
