Making it to the brilliant yellow beacon teleports you back to the garage where all the magic happens. Repair, refresh, recharge. Everything about this game is a touch of magic, I tell you. I have to stop myself because I can talk about it forever. Just play it.

The map shows an encroaching red eating at the corners, closing in on you. That's the Storm. Getting caught in it is akin to being microwaved. Your car will take the brunt, but not long. The music kicks into overdrive. Every warning is going off. DRIVE. DRIVE. I feel urgent dread and doom.

Unless the junction you're in is "perpetually stable", you're always under threat of the area's imminent collapse. Atmosphere in this game is huge. Everything from the art, sound, and lighting give off a perfect sense of an otherworldly excursion into a "familiar but not quite right" PNW. There's a comfortable loneliness to sitting in the car, listening to the rain while floating chunks of concrete drift by.
