Perhaps western Europe might want to buy time but I suspect (with no knowledge or insight on my side) that Poland and Finland would be very happy to unleash their forces against Russian scum at the first opportunity. Both countries have suffered at the hands of that evil country.

Well, both are currently in their natural habitats: Australia for wombats, prison for a.k.a. Robinson. But does Robinson defecate cubes too?

Years ago, The Guardian asked poet Adrian Mitchell to answer A-level questions about his set text poem(s). He didn't do well on the"what was the author thinking?" questions!

A steam train? Not a locomotive?

Why was her Jizzabel Moneyshott nickname retired? Curious minds are curious!

I agree and disagree! As you say, being rude in itself won't convince, although the weight of people saying "no, that's not correct, only idiots believe it" must occasionally tip the balance. But also, does overt stupidity deserve politeness? Promoting idiotic, harmful theories is rude!

There is a pertinent saying: "reason won't convince a person to change their view if they didn't get there by reason." Hearts come before minds.

A person will only be convinced when they are ready to be convinced - think of something to put from a religion, that isn't based on critical thinking. Decisions and viewpoints are formed *emotionally*, not rationally. Reason reviews decisions, it does not make them.

Oh dear, these replies don't get the teaching objective. Critical thinking is important, but one must also be aware that others might not be thinking critically and will not be swayed by reasoned debate. Simply, the killer argument is not a killer.

So … it wasn't really difficult an hour ago, it won't be really difficult an hour from now, but it is really difficult now? Ok … solution … set your clock an hour forward.

How many points did the defense score? Perhaps they should have turned over more for scores? Got to set super-high standards!

Ockham's Razor can slit your throat! It can be argued the other way: English probably acquired the word from Norman French, which acquired it from Latin. What the issue shows is something different: the Jeopardy schtick of misrepresenting answer as question is tedious and problematic.

Me too! I have blocked or muted some accounts but also muted "galaxy", "hubble" etc. in settings>moderation and that has brought some relief.

Wow, another category error! I suppose it's unreasonable to expect intellectual rigour from theologians.
comment in response to post
That's a category error: the question was about the study of fairies, not about the study of people who believe in fairies. So no, it's not a valid subset of either.

"Nonsense" serves perfectly well, as it does for theology and other pseudo-studies of unreality.

A national anthem that begs an imaginary being to bless a parasite who has inherited a golden hat? Mmmm… no. I'm patriotic enough, but I'm not dishonest enough to sing that crap. Standing out of politeness is all I'll give.

Posters here seem to be missing the key point about this sort of religion: what matters is membership of the group and identification with other members, not what's in their totemic books. Ingroups, outgroups.

Two more times and he'll appear 😮

But yes, definitely join!! Preferably rejoin the EU properly, if not, join in free trade and other programmes.
comment in response to post
Rejoining the Single Market IS complex. The EU might say "ok, you can join …" but that would immediately be followed by "… and this is the price." Look at the complex and expensive deal Norway had to agree to for its free trade.

Please don't say his name three times! 😲

If UNESCO or some other organisation get behind ALD, that would be super. It is clearly too much work for one person without the backing of a secretariat. The recent event at the Royal Institution in London was excellent, well attended by an enthusiastic audience. Please help it continue!

Comments here seem to characterize "enshittification" of websites as suggested by Cory Doctorow: first improve to attract users, then degrade to favour business, then ruin to serve shareholders.
