Can't help but think of the long stretch along the Central Valley I-5, field after field covered in signs proudly stating you're in Trump country. Destroying California's agriculture sector to own the libs. Sigh.

Reminding Californians that they are present here as an occupying force, not as fellow countrymen

And this doesn't even include yesterday's political murders

Thank you, I never understood why a lie that implies gross incompetence is considered an acceptable response

Ugh, this is why we can't have nice things like *checks notes* affordable healthcare

Fair point, I put up with a lot less nonsense these days

It's not good but it's very watchable trash if you're in the right mood

Didn't SCOTUS just reward him for this?

That was my guess

My sister and I just recently went through the family jewelry and found my parents' wedding rings and my grandma's ring.

Yep, it's class warfare. I hate it here

And yes, definitely need an intersectional lens to clearly see how much white Gen X culture has been steeped in racism, classism, misogyny and grievance.

Plenty of cool Gen Xers were racist, sexist assholes too. Irony and nihilism read as edgy and cool but they are toxic to empathy. All the same, some of the most lovely people I know, committed to communal support, are Gen X. Because they grew up seeing all that ugliness for what it was

This is what Walter Benjamin means when he describes fascism as the astheticization of politics

Nice! I'll try that out, thank you!

Yes, but realized too late that I don't have a spray bottle for cooking so I just did it by hand. Whoops. Next loaf will be prettier

Just out of the oven and it smells delicious. Will work on my knife skills not the next loaf 🍽️

Doing okay so far. Dough is shaped and ready for its second rise

Yeah thanks, another poster explained it to me earlier. Our convo is in the thread

Your vision is better than mine then as I only saw one badge in passing and didn't see ICE on it, whereas the vests are the main visual signifier. But I believe you. I also saw ERO on their vests but not sure what it means
comment in response to post
Their gear says Police, not ICE. Are the LAPD now arresting immigrants for ICE?

With more context, maturity & empathy, most people I know saw through that framing and are better people than the culture we were raised in. But definitely know why Gen X is full of assholes

Gen X here. My pet theory for the massive # of racist, bigoted Gen Xers is that 1) we were acculturated to feed on our grievances and resentments. 2) We grew up in a time when rape culture & violence against women was normalized. 3) POC were treated as violent threats. The open racism was ugly.

This post is selling it. Just put the book on my tbr list

Partly because MSM keeps signalling the lack of urgency or need to heed such warnings

I can think of at least one other news anchor with a big enough trust fund to show some spine. And a bunch of others with the money to not need the networks. They aren't acting out of fear or cowardice. They see themselves as aligned with the forces running the country

This is the wrong message at the wrong time. Folks are losing their civil rights at a rapid clip. It's those of us who are privileged (in this instance by being cis) who need to listen. Also this person is a terf, probably simplest to block and move on.
comment in response to post
Yes this is the part I don't get. How do these end time Christians convince themselves that the folks who actively work with the forces of evil to bring about war, death and destruction are the souls that will be saved?
comment in response to post
I am a proponent of nonviolence and yet I can't help but wonder why, in the wake of the right wing political assassinations in MN, the NYT decides to highlight a critique of the "violence" of the resistance, not Trump supporters
