Rewatched the Angel City match. A few observations, but first a gripe. After the match, Sam Laity said, “In the 2H, we dropped off a lot, we looked tired, we looked fatigued, so from then it was about mentality.” Mentality doesn’t fix fatigue, Sam. Squad rotation & substitutions fix it.

USWNT is forgetting that, when they get the ball, regressive passing plays right into the hands of Brazil’s 3-4-3, aggressive press. Play needs to be quickly forward & take advantage of the inherent space. Use the speed of Alysa & Trin.

The good: Phallon is v deserving, & Avery Patterson is a super interesting skillset to bring into the USWNT. Also Hutton getting another call-up👏 The inexplicable/disappointing: With the v deep, young MF talent pool, I just don't understand why Albert continues to occupy space on every USWNT roster.

If you make a list of the best 8 Angel City players, Sam Laity is choosing to leave 4 on the bench yet again. It’s inexplicable & astonishing. Like a boxer saying, “Nah, I’ll just fight one-handed.” If he wasn’t an interim, I’d have already tossed him into the fucking ocean.

Angel City starting the match w/Press, Zelem, Dufour, & Moriya on the bench is unserious at best & roster mismanagement at worst, but not giving Christen Press any minutes at all in a 1-1 match is nasty business by Sam Laity. That's fully half of your best 8 players. Unacceptable

Early Angel City observations: Alanna Kennedy may not be mobile enough to play CDM in such a fast, athletic, transitional league as is the NWSL. Puts way too much pressure on the center-backs. Relatedly, there's no linking play w/Fuller, so ACFC is too reliant on flank attacks.

My new Hodge kit arrives tomorrow, so I will be in my Zelem kit tonight, but I'm all-in on Hodge having a banner rookie yr for Angel City. I think inserting Hodge will unlock Zelem's skill in making line-breaking passes to the forwards, better linking the lines (which was a prob for ACFC last yr).
