Imagine thinking a defender is a better forward option than Press, like what the actual fuck are we doing here? #laityout

I knew who you were talking about 🙂

Spot-on. Laity deserves this, but I feel actually bad for the players. They know when they aren’t set up to be successful. It’s frustrating & erodes both morale & trust.

Of course not. It’s ridiculous.

Those were fun teams

All the way back to Brann & the Norwegian youth teams, he's trying to create overloads in the midfield both in- & out-of-possession. That's the core thing w/his teams. Minimal width, particularly in attacking transitions.

He's still got to figure out that midfield. He's basically been blessed with a cornucopia of midfield options that allowed him to make opponent-specific choices. Cupboard is a bit more sparse for him in LA.

Some slight tactical & style of play changes this year suddenly make more sense. High press, focus on immediate recovery when possession is lost, quick transitions w/a minimum number of progressive passes to reach goal.

Finally, the lack of minutes for Christen Press continues to be astonishing. It really demands an explanation.

Honestly, I appreciate the tactical shift to stop solely trying to build from the back vs aggressive press. Puts less pressure on Anderson w/ball at her feet. Get ball upfield quickly & win 2nd ball. Tiernan & Hodge have been bulldogs at winning them (& Tiernan has been excellent w/her hold-up play)

Savy King playing inside was an interesting experiment, but it will stick, bc her speed is necessary inside given the NWSL is a transitional league, & our pivots lack pace. She & Sarah Gorden are probably the quickest CB pairing in the league.

I’ll admit I was wrong on Alana Kennedy at the 6. She reads the game well & is a calming presence & reliable outlet for CBs. She also needs rest & rotation. Zelem is by far the best at line-breaking passes on the club. She needs more minutes. Hodge is the stud I told y’all she’d be.

Speaking of Thompsons, Alysa is a top-5 player in NWSL right now. I said what I said. She’s showing so much maturity in her game. She does need a rest, though. Seriously. Give Dufour some minutes.

Observations: Emslie is having another outstanding year. She terrorized Houston on that flank. It should improve even more as her chemistry develops w/GT. You can see sometimes she expects an inverted run instead of overlapping or vice versa. That’ll improve as GT learns to better read the LB cues

I love Jenna, & I’m so glad she’s playing for Arsenal, but I also have Jenna’s build, so I understand that’s coach-speak for “tends to lose shoulder challenges & can be moved off the ball.” I’ve heard it my whole life lol

It also, I think, demonstrates her self-confidence. Insecure managers of all types will rarely empower like this. They believe their authority depends upon &/or requires imposing solutions from above.

Why bother to sign Press for another year? Why bring in Dufour & Moriya? Why the big move to bring Zelem over? These are players who wouldn’t have chosen to come to the States &/or ACFC if they knew they’d be left on the bench & not get regular minutes. And on ACFC’s part, it’s frankly bad business.

The Zags opening up a 27-3 lead on UGA & just rolling from there.

After being in the arenas to watch GU lose to Georgia in both 2002 & 2006, I somehow thought it was a good idea to go see them in Wichita tomorrow. So, if we lose, the blame solely falls on me. One thing I firmly believe: GU *could* beat anyone in the country on a given day.

100%. This isn't exactly new for him, & a big part of the reason why he's a career assistant & not being given opportunities to be a HC again.

And no subs until the 75th min when Angel City has a short week & a road trip to Portland on tap for Friday. Again, Sam Laity clearly doesn't understand how to manage a roster.

We obvs are still figuring combinations. Need a ball-winner & a line-breaker. Really hard to link lines if attacks are solely up the flanks. Fuller's been invisible for long stretches. We're also using a 9 who is good at pressing, but not great at hold-up play. So, our probs are right up the spine
