Ha, I believe I see Mark and Dick, standing next to each other. Good luck to all.

Survival of the fittest means 'the most adapted', not the biggest bully. This is why power and force based empires will never last. What lasts is cooperation, underpinned by values like friendship and generosity.

There has long been a misunderstanding about our evolution as a species. We were not successful as a species thanks to the "strongest". We were successful because we excel at cooperation, including helping for free. The reward is in the helping, not the gratitude received.

I also remember my country, the Netherlands, offering different kinds of help after Katrina.

European here. I've been to the US and found individual Americans to be absolutely lovely and hospitable. But right now, trust me, I have no plans to go there.

Zelensky was 100 times more the gentleman without a suit than the other two with one. What they did was appalling. And it's just a game to them.

I happened to watch this on the Dutch children's news programme. Zelensky is the only one with dignity.

I never said communism would work. It obviously didn't. But it was what it originally meant. People now throw the word around so senselessly, it seems to lose all meaning. To the degree where having healthcare is 'commie'. It stands in the way of an actual discourse. But I guess no one is interested

I also had a profound King Arthur era in my youth. Malory, Chrétien de Troyes, modern interpretations, everything.

Jane Austen and CS Lewis, but I made up for Greek mythology later, and I am making up for Stephen King now.

I have never understood this from the moment the 'grab 'em by the p..' thing came out. You would not let such a man date your daughter. But you would let him run the country!?

Have you ever heard of Wilhem Wundt? And also, (for the OP) while there is a lot to say about the methodology of psychology research, especially when it comes to constructs, anecdote is still not evidence.

Um, not exactly. Communism is where everything belongs to everyone. A monarchy is where the king is head of state. Communism barely works, but there are a number of well-functioning monarchies. Interestingly, Denmark is one of them. So is my own country, the Netherlands.

This turns out to be a kind of all-purpose gif.

I'm sort of amused at the fact that one person would piss off Canadians to the extent where they don't want him anymore. I mean, if Canada spits you out, where do you even go from there?

Well! *Puts Divine Comedy down*. Just kidding. I did wish today that I could have read what Dante would have had to say about the orange guy.

Now that I think about it, perhaps Lewis was on to something. People seem to confuse listening to a story (or watching or reading it) with writing it.

To illustrate my meaning, once I read a review on a very run-of-the-mill drama movie and the review stated that it failed to be about Jesus. To this day, I cannot even articulate...

Many people in my country, the Netherlands, did this a while ago with the Dutch flag, for different reasons. Although our flag represents our nation, not our administration. Even so, this gesture hits home. Deeply felt. Wow!

Somewhat related, I never understood reviews to the effect of: "X needed to be about this/not to be about that." Dude, that is not how writing works. What's more, it is not how reviews work. If you wanna read a specific story, man up and do what CS Lewis did: write it.

I don't understand why someone would respond like this to a conscious choice for love.

We moeten zo snel mogelijk af van het idee dat Amerika onze vriend is. Amerika heeft nu nog maar één vriend en dat is Mammon.
