Yeah, he had some conflict with Lem, didn’t he, over the changes. Whereas he was more successful with the changes for Stalker. Ah well. Stalker is one of my favs. Second to Andrei Rublev.

I feel like Solaris has aged really poorly, unlike the rest. I think it’s still a little more complete in terms of narrative and a little more ambitious than Ivan, but I could be convinced of its place at the end of the list depending on the day.

Sunny Places sits between the two. It's pretty even throughout, just doesnt have the high of Smoking.

Of the two others, The Dangers of Smoking in Bed is the best. There's a long piece towards the end that draws the book together that's a beautiful thing to behind. Things We Lost in the Fire has some really decent stuff in it and some real ordinary stuff so it's a bit uneven. IMO of course.
