Republicans could easily stop Trump and Musk’s liquidation of government functions their constituents rely on. Just a small handful—literally single digits—could work with Democrats and end it. Instead they meekly go along while privately begging for dispensation. www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

This sort of gives away the "liberal deep state" nonsense. *There has never been a Director of the FBI who was a Democrat. *The Republican Directors were not targeting conservatives, if the word "conservative" has any meaning.

Now that musk is saying he’s doing the DOGE stuff “because the globalists have plotted a Great Replacement in which they use government handouts to buy votes from illegal immigrants and urban blacks” maybe we don’t have to act like this is about deficits or cost cutting anymore

The position I'd like to see House and Senate Democrats take is pretty simple: We refuse to cooperate with Republicans on anything until they stop breaking the law and trashing the Constitution. We want Musk out, DOGE dissolved, and the Trump administration complying with federal court orders.

Interesting: the State Department’s procurement forecast detailing a $400 million order for "armored Tesla" has now been edited to "armored electric vehicles." The document shows the edit was made tonight at 9:12 p.m. -- after it was highlighted in reports

When Stanford IT staff and a pro-diversity group shared a list of words they encouraged others not to use, it was national news, despite the fact it never represented campus policy. When the government erases any mention, data or research related to words, will it be treated as a free speech issue?

This is the thought that has been in my head since this all started. There’s no way out for them if there’s a government left when they’re done. That’s hugely scary.

Hey #rva: Style Weekly's annual Best of Richmond Readers' Poll is open! Submit your nominations by Feb. 28. The top three in each category will move on to the voting round, which runs from March 7-28. vote.styleweekly.com.

I don’t understand what they thought they were voting for, since everything he’s done and said here is in line with his campaign.

at least @techdirt.bsky.social is not fucking around

The unelected South African oligarch tearing apart American civil service is calling the international aid-and-soft-power apparatus started at the height of the Cold War to counter the influence of the Soviets a “viper’s nest of radical-left marxists.” Wont anyone read a book?

Hey look, another instance of the total failure of Article I of the Constitution. This is an agency created by a law of Congress in 1961. The President does not have the power to do this. Except, he can if Congress does nothing.

they’re segregationists

🎯: “No ‘process of national reconciliation’ can begin when poor losers, whose preferred candidate loses an election, are glorified for disrupting a constitutionally mandated proceeding … and doing so with impunity.”

@jamellebouie.net @lioneltrolling.bsky.social best thing about the movie 1941 is definitely the John Williams score

one reason i am adamant that we should not treat the constitution as purely or exclusively a form of law is that it cedes the field to clever lawyers. “oh, well if some chuds in trump’s white house says birthright citizenship doesn’t exist then i guess it doesn’t exist.” but

Not everyone can fight Trumpism and Trumpists directly. But remember this: kindness, decency, and fidelity to American values are defiance in the face of Trumpism. So be kind, decent, and faithful, particularly to the many kinds of people despised and attacked by Trumpists. That’s revolutionary./1

The commanders completed the wizard of oz this season (they beat the lions, the tigers and the bears)

Bezos spiked the Washington Post editorial endorsing Harris, saying that the paper needed to stay neutral to maintain the trust of its readership. Now the Washington Post editorial board is out with a piece urging Congress to rubber stamp nearly all of Trump's cabinet nominees

[willem dafoe unprompted] now, this cookie monster. [toothy smile] what a creature, what a lust. it consumes him. [crosses legs] he’s really a tragic figure.

If you keep a sourdough starter, do you mark the container when you feed it? Maybe it’s because I keep a smaller starter until I’m ready to bake, but it’s really obvious to me when it’s ready.

Sourdough bread TikTok is such an echo chamber. It’s like 60% people giving the same recipes/advice as if they created it and then the rest is mostly people boosting that advice.

What’s your favorite travel camera? Film or digital.

If only the Democrats had bothered to listen to and address real Americans’ need to have the Gulf of Mexico renamed

it is so important to remember that IN THE MOMENT there was no one who thought jan. 6 was some innocent protest gone awry. everyone recognized it for what it was.

the ai bot isn’t “admitting” its secrets to you or “revealing” its creators intentions it’s just a word generating machine generating words the only meaning is that which you read into it and imo that should be none

Made hoppin’ John today with my @ranchogordo.bsky.social black eyed peas, and they are they best I’ve ever had. Served with a slice of my homemade sourdough bread.

Trying to (re-)read @mrgan.com’s sourdough pizza recipe and what is going on with Tumblr? First it put up a non-skippable login modal just as I was getting to the bottom of the post, and then when I hid it with safari, the page started reloading as I scrolled.

FIFA, perhaps the most corrupt organization in sports, keeps somehow getting more corrupt.

@ranchogordo.bsky.social making beans for Thanksgiving and we were looking at the New England Baked Beans recipe in the Bean Book, but we have some folks who don’t eat pork. Any substitutions for the bacon/pork you can suggest?

Unfortunately this is all my fault, but I will do better this coming year
